There's an "I'll Be Back" joke in there somewhere. Of course Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be in another Terminator. He's a self-respecting Repulican now. He's too good for us sci-fi geeks.

The film’s screenwriter has confirmed that the Governator won’t be involved in the new film.

"Terminator 3 kind of closed the book on Schwarzenegger, as did his gubernatorial career," Michael Ferris told Entertainment Weekly.

Previous reports suggest that T4 is being designed as the first in a trilogy that’ll tie in with the new spin-off television series, The Sarah Connor Chronicles. All Ferris will reveal is that "You will learn about Skynet and what that postapolyptic future is like."

The original plan was to introduce a totally new Terminator.

Look out Lord Valdermort — Harry Potter's invisibility cloak just got a little closer to reality, say material scientists who report today on a prototype that hides objects from microwaves.

An era of devices that are effectively invisible and isolated may spring from the prototype, says study senior author David Smith of Duke University in Durham, N. The technology relies on plastic and metal "metamaterials," which have surfaces etched to shape the passage of electromagnetic waves, including visible light frequencies, around objects as if nothing were there.

Electromagnetic waves scatter and reflect when they strike objects. The eye picks up this reflection to see things.

Maybe I can use the invisibility cloak material on my flying car.

Wesley Snipes, Crackheads and the IRS. Oh My!

Wesley Snipes Feels Blade of IRS

The Blade star was indicted in Tampa Tuesday on eight counts of tax fraud for allegedly trying to bilk $12 million in fraudulent refunds out of the federal government, for claiming his income was immune from taxation and for failing to file any returns for six years.

If convicted on all charges, the actor could face up to 16 years in prison—though they'll have to catch him first. Last week the U.S. Attorney's office issued a warrant for Snipes' arrest after federal authorities were unable to locate him.

Are they sure it's him and not his tax preparer's?

According to the indictment, unsealed this morning and posted online by the Smoking Gun (www.thesmokinggun.com), the 44-year-old actor attempted to seek the eight-figure refund in 1996 and 1997 as part of an ongoing tax scam.

Federal investigators claim the fraud was perpetrated with the help of Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas Rosile. Kahn is the founder of two organizations—Florida's American Rights Litigators and Guiding Light of God Ministries—which, per the indictment, "promoted and sold fraudulent tax schemes." Rosile is an accountant for the former company.

Ewwww.... That doesn't sound good. I heard about those. I hope this isn't true. The crackhead thing turned out to be a crazy crackhead with delusions and was dismissed. Let's hope that this turns out to be misinformation as well.

Virtual Land Lawsuit Reveals Dark Side of 'Second Life' Game - Tech News - Playfuls.com - Science & Technology

On October 4, 2006, a first-of- its-kind lawsuit was filed in Chester County, Pennsylvania seeking remedies for a series of virtual land deals gone sour. The lawsuit was originally filed in magistrate court on May 1, 2006 and re-filed with a more detailed complaint because of importance of issues being addressed in the case.

The suit names Linden Research, Inc. and its CEO Philip Rosedale as Defendants and seeks financial damages in the thousands and specific performance requesting a return of the land and access to it, in part for a breach of a virtual land auction contract, fraud and violations of the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer protection> Law and California Unfair and Deceptive Practices Act, among other claims. This suit is unique because the land does not actually exist in the real world and no law has yet been created in the United States with regard to the unique nature of virtual land.

Who saw this coming? Has a market for virtual lawyers just been created? You know, in my haste to see humanity push forward, I never suspected that the human factor would be such a problem. Are businesses irresponsible? Are people abusing "the system"?

I remember thinking when I saw Kirk use a hand-held communicator that it would be cool to have that. What I did not anticipate was wireless plans, minute counting, contracts, drops in service, government involvement, nickle and dime ringtones... The whole experience totally takes away from the gadget and the coolness of it.

Now something as fun as a virtual world has either a company defrauding land owners or a frivolus lawsuit. How annoying will it be to have a flying car? What would people do to the flying car experience to make it as tedious as using the internet or a cell phone?

What does that mean? Is Joss even speaking English here? That must be French or something. I think the guy is in denial about the Serenity sequel. I think he just wants our attention. We should send him a basket or something.

Angel came back from hell and the dead. Buffy was dead AND buried. River and Simon was pronounced dead. Is Wash “really” dead? You think smothering something with a pillow can really kill something in the Whedon universe? I don’t think that staking it, chopping the head off with a silver blade, dousing it in holy water and burying the body and the head facedown at the crossroads can kill it.

Unless he comes up with something equally good to divert our attention away from Firefly/ Serenity, he can hang up any chance of us comprehending no.

Harmony from Angel/Buffy in Playboy!

I'm surfing this morning and what do I find? Mercedes McNab has been talked in to doing Playboy. Let's face it, Mercedes McNab is SO a stripper's name, this is her destiny. Don't forget about Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) who took it all off in 2004. Come to think of it, she has a stripper name too.

Truth be told, a lot of women think about what their Playboy spread (no pun intended) would look like IF and in a galaxy far, far away.... or is that just me? I could never do it. I think my family would go primitive and stone me to death or something.

Mercedes McNab's Playboy shoot - NSFW - TV Squad

Former Angel and Buffy star Mercedes McNab is the cover girl for the November issue of Playboy. Mercedes had a long recurring run on both Whedon shows as Harmony Kendall. Following the end of Angel she did the short film Miles From Home. She also has the horror film Hatchet in the can. You can find out more about that one at the movie's website. It looks fantastic, and seems to be getting a lot of good press.

Of course, Mercedes isn't the first Buffy alum to work for Playboy. Charisma Carpenter appeared in the June 2004 issue. It's a trend I would like to encourage. Maybe we can look forward to Clare Kramer in the May 2008 issue? Anyway, if you would like to see what all the hubbub is about, you will find the pictures right here. I have to stress that there is nudity, and they are not safe for work. Unless you work at a place that doesn't mind you surfing for pictures of boobs. If you do, that's a nice gig.

One Step Closer to Beaming Me Up

ABC News: Quantum information teleported from light to matter

Beaming people in Star Trek fashion is still in the realms of science fiction but physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality.

Until now scientists have teleported similar objects such as light or single atoms over short distances from one spot to another in a split second.

But Professor Eugene Polzik and his team at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough by using both light and matter.

"It is one step further because for the first time it involves teleportation between light and matter, two different objects. One is the carrier of information and the other one is the storage medium," Polzik explained in an interview on Wednesday.

The experiment involved for the first time a macroscopic atomic object containing thousands of billions of atoms. They also teleported the information a distance of half a meter but believe it can be extended further.

"Teleportation between two single atoms had been done two years ago by two teams but this was done at a distance of a fraction of a millimetre," Polzik, of the Danish National Research Foundation Center for Quantum Optics, explained.

"Our method allows teleportation to be taken over longer distances because it involves light as the carrier of entanglement," he added.

Quantum entanglement involves entwining two or more particles without physical contact.

Although teleportation is associated with the science-fiction series Star Trek, no one is likely to be beamed anywhere soon.

Battlestar Galactica - I'm Not In To It

After really hating last season's finale and not appeased by the webisodes, I still went into the new season of Battlestar Galactica with high hopes.... or at least an open mind. I do not like the new direction of the show. So much so that I'm thinking about taking a break from the show. I get the parallel to today's society. I get the terrorist angle. I get the religious angle. Take all of that away and it's just another soap-opera. It doesn't even feel like a space-opera. I'm not intrigued by the Cylons or whatever BS they are spewing. There's no wow factor, no adventure, hell it's not even crack TV for me. The show is not a joy to watch, there are no treats, it feels like a burden. I am EXTREMELY lenient with TV shows. I watched all 5 seasons of Earth Final Conflict for crying out loud. I watched Mansquito all the way through. For some reason, I actually feel compelled to turn Battlestar Galactica off. It's a weird sensation, I feel uneasy and inadequate. I feel off-centered. I'm questioning my sci-fi loyalty but I shouldn't have to work this hard to like a show. I really WANT to like this show but it's just not happening for me anymore.

Ron Moore, I think I need some space. Can we still be friends?

I'll let my DVR keep on recording it. I'll build up a few episodes and watch them in a marathon. If that doesn't work, I'm going to officially say that I don't watch Battlestar Galactica because I just don't like it. That would truly feel alien.

Heroes and Superheroes

Heroes and Superheroes both get more episodes. NBC ordered a full season of Heroes. SciFi asks Stan Lee and Who Wants to be a Superhero to come back for a second season. I personally can't wait for Feedback's SciFi Original. There's no news on that just yet.

I'm still afraid to be attached to Heroes. We saw what happened to Threshold, Surface and Invasion. *sigh* and Blade.

Sci Fi, Sundance Give Indie Filmmakers Exposure

Sci Fi, Sundance Give Indie Filmmakers Exposure

In an effort to turn the spotlight on some of the nation’s best independent makers of short films, Sci Fi Channel, in conjunction with Sundance Channel, will launch Exposure, an eight-week competition that will allow the online communities of both networks’ Web sites to participate.

SciFi.com (www.scifi.com) and Sundance’s site (www.sundancechannel.com) are now accepting submissions of two- to eight-minute science-fiction, horror or fantasy shorts.

The films will be judged by a committee comprising network experts who will post the best entries online each week. Fans, in turn, will cast their votes on either Web site to determine 10 weekly winners. Those films will then air on Sci Fi, with an online vote determining the winner, who will get a trip to New York to pitch a project to Sci Fi Channel’s Pictures Group.

Submissions will be taken through Nov. 20, with the first shorts scheduled to appear on the Web Nov. 23.

“Sundance Channel is excited to develop this joint platform with Sci Fi for emerging short-form filmmakers,” Sundance vice president of digital media and business strategy Christopher Barry said in a prepared statement.

“This collaboration represents a fresh look at the sci-fi, horror and fantasy genres, and we look forward to featuring creative and innovative content across both online communities,” he added.

LOST
LOVED IT! Just when I thought there were no more angles on the plane crash, BAM!, they hit us with "The Others" perspective. It doesn't feel like a re-hash either. I'm totally interested in their view and approach to the plane crash. I can't believe how good this show is. It seems like this show could out do Babylon 5 in well-thought out arcs and plots.

SUPERNATURAL
The best new show that you may not be watching. It's a cross between Angel and X-Files. It's witty like Buffy and feels a little like Smallville but really good in it's own way. If you like hot guys, there are two brothers that are a treat to look at. The dad isn't bad either... well .... that was before..... They also have a hot chick of the week for the fellas.
If you miss demon hunting, rituals and mystical beings, catch this show! ...and unlike Blade, it made it to it's second season. (oh yes! I'm going to drag the Blade thing on for awhile. I'm still pissed!)

Heroes
REALLY LOVE IT!!!!
The first episode concerned me a bit for some reason but the second episode sealed the deal for me. Hiro is my absolute favorite mainly because he is a Trekkie :) Most of the stories are intriguing... actually all of them are. It's super powers without being campy or too serious. The show really puts the "everyday" in the whole story. It's accessible without making you feel dirty for watching a sci-fi show.
Instead of "The Cigarette Smoking Man" looks like we have "The Eyeglasses Wearing Guy". He's growing out that mustache to twirl. Hopefully he doesn't muhahaha us too soon.

Battlestar Galactica
The Story So Far.... (BSG Recap Show) was a great idea and refresher course in Battlestar Galactica. If you are thinking about jumping into BSG but don't feel like watching the last few seasons, this will bring you up to speed. Over the course of the show, I'd forgotten a lot of the things covered in this recap show. In all of the details of their lives I forgot that these people were looking for Earth. It got me curious again.... well... panicked. I've heard about how bad the original show was when the crew got to Earth. I'm wondering how our modern show would handle going/coming to Earth. Intriguing.
For now though, the story is so far from Earth that it's depressing. I eventually watched all of the webisodes on scifi.com. I must say that I've overcome my initial disappointment, resentment and reluctance to this coming season. The recap show calmed my disgruntled spirit and sparked my curiosity again. That and I trust Ron Moore a bit. I hope he doesn't "do us wrong".

This little FBI crime drama that uses math to solve crime has been on for THREE, count them THREE seasons. AHH AHH AHH AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
This show makes you feel smart just by watching it. I'm not sure if it has improved my IQ any but let's just say it does for the feel good factor of this entry. Charlie Eppes (Mr. Universe from Serenity - David Krumholtz), Don Eppes (Northern Exposure - Rob Morrow), Omar Epps (just kidding) and Alan Eppes (Judd Hirsch) make up the power house family of moderately cute men that help solve crime using math, FBI training and common freaking sense, respectively.
This show throws "It's math and I can't use it in my every day life" back in the faces of those under- achievers who've said this. This show also seems to have a math problem for EVERYTHING. There's even a website dedicated to explaining the problems on the show for you and of course it's called We All Us Math Everyday.com.
If it seems like too much technobabble for you, the show is balanced by family issues like the death of their mother, Charlie's relationship/not relationship with a math chick, kidnapping and of course EXPLOSIONS. If you try hard enough, it's possible to totally ignore the math on the show.

Doctor Who
Oh... look... another show that made it to the second season. We have a new, new Doctor. He's not as hot as the old, new doctor but he'll do. If the beginning of the season seems slow and doesn't pull you in, wait it out, the season gets better. I think Doctor David Tennant is best when he's angry and goofy. I won't spoil anything but the devil episode is awesome. The Olympic episode is awesome too especially the torch scene. You'll love the Cybermen and the Daleks toward the end of the season.

SCI FI Renews Eureka

SCI FI Channel has ordered a 13-episode second season of its hit original series Eureka, which aired its first-season finale on Oct. 3, the network announced. Eureka will begin production on its second season in Vancouver, B.C., this spring and will return to the air in summer 2007.

How about that season finale? I love Henry's story, heck, I love everyone's story. THANK YOU FOR RENEWING EUREKA SCIFI!!!!!!!!!

An electronic shoe? What will they think of next. The Wired NextFest was all about the future and here it comes face to face with the oldest profession in the world. Yes, we're talking about sex. That's definitely on my wish list as soon as she gets a distributor.

SON OF A .... BLADE HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!!

After spending a whole hell of a lot of time editing a Blade specific podcast, getting no sleep and pushing myself to the limit, I wake up to find out that Blade The TV Series has been cancelled. I'm pissed.

Blade Gets The Spike : scifi.com

Spike TV confirmed to SCI FI Wire reports that its original series Blade has been canceled. "Yes, that's true," a Spike representative said in an interview on Sept. 29. "It won't be renewed for a second season. I can tell you that Spike TV was very happy with the creative part of Blade. The cast, the actual production. We absolutely enjoyed working with New Line and [ex ecutive producer] David Goyer, [writer] Geoff Johns. But honestly, the network was disappointed with the audience turnout and the ratings. But I can tell you that New Line is going to be issuing a DVD of the entire season." No date was announced for the DVD.

The statement confirmed rumors first posted by co-star Jill Wagner on her MySpace.com page, according to a report on the THEOcracy Web site. The post in which Wagner (Krista Starr) reports the news is only visible to Wagner's friends. The news was also reported on Ain't It Cool News.

The series was quietly put to sleep after the end of its first 13-episode season. The show was based on the Blade movies and the Marvel Comics character, with Kirk "Sticky" Jones playing the title character. Wagner played his counterpart, a former soldier who becomes a vampire but struggles to retain her humanity.

I'll get over it but let me tell you that the news burned. It's not a surprise but still...

Scientists turn dead cells into live tissue

Scientists working at a British laboratory have achieved one of the most controversial breakthroughs ever made in the field of stem cell science by taking cells from dead embryos and turning them into living tissue.

The technique could soon be used to create treatments for patients suffering from diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, the researchers say. The breakthrough has been hailed by many scientists and ethical experts because it could circumvent opposition to stem cell experiments.

This could SO be the next subject of the next Re-Animator movie: Rock-a-bye Re-Animator. (Title free for the taking!) Too bad we have to wait until 2008 for House of Re-Animator.

Stargate vs Star Trek MMORPG

I was just sent a link informing me of a new Stargate MMORPG on the horizon. (Thanks Masque) I also got news that the creators of the Star Trek MMORPG are now able to play the game.

This is wonderful news. I was really excited about the Star Trek game but it's taking FOREVER to come out. Hopefully that means that they are taking their time and making it a quality game. I didn't think I'd be excited about a Stargate game but I am. Re-watching the series from the beginning is helping with that. The Matrix has a MMORPG but that wretched third movie turned me off to the entire franchise. There just no fixing that. I wanted to get into Star Wars Galaxies but I feel a bit intimidated going in. No getting thrown in the Rancor Pit for me.

So if they come out at the same time, which would your prefer? Star Trek or Stargate?

Virtual Lampshade Hat

How do you manage to make an ass of yourself at a VIRTUAL party you ask?

You know that SciFi Ranter Girl always has the answer to every question, even that one. I had some technical difficulties with my avatar and my textures weren't mapping properly so I ended up walking around with "Missing" on my avatars upper body. It's the equivalent of seeing those exceeded bandwidth Photobucket errors.

As usual, I had NO clue. No one said anything. I think some people were afraid to say anything because of my long rant about people's rights to have a weird avatar in my last podcast. Here's how I looked to everyone else in the Virtual Cloning Chamber dancing like a zombie. (Dancing like a zombie is totally my doing) Click for the full pic and in the bottom left they call me "creepy". Jeez, I always need a chaperon! LOL!!

I looked normal from my view. My snapshots even came out normal. I took picture with JC Hutchins. Look at how he's looking at me. Hilarious!

What I'd Give for Firefly to Return

I would have them cancel Stargate: SG1, Atlantis and BSG if it meant bringing back Firefly.

The marathon on the SciFi Channel yesterday opened up old wounds. Why hasn't this show returned??!?!?!?!?!!?????

I Wish Lucas Was My Uncle

I need some money too!!!! I always wondered how charity worked and what the "giver" gets out of it. I don't know for sure but is it for that warm, fuzzy feeling or what? Whatever the cast, BRAVO! George Lucas. From what I hear, charity is good.

Lucas Gives And Gets In L.A.

Star Wars creator George Lucas is donating $175 million through his Lucas Foundation to his alma mater, the newly renamed University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, the largest single donation in USC's history, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Of the donation, $75 million will be earmarked for the construction of new educational buildings on the Los Angeles campus and renovations of existing structures at the school, while $100 million will provide an endowment.

In related news, Lucas was named grand marshal of the 118th annual Tournament of Roses in the L.A. suburb of Pasadena, Calif., the Associated Press reported. The theme for the annual New Year's Day parade is "Our Good Nature."

Save Stargate and Surface

I'm still in denial about Stargate. I don't think this will happen. It seems so out of the blue. BUT.... watching the latest episodes with the Ori and the Lucian Alliance, I'm just not feeling it and it kinda seems like the cast isn't feeling it either. Either way, if you want to join the campaign, there are sites that help you with that.

Matt Damon on Being Captian Kirk

TrekToday - Damon Says No One Has Asked Him To Do 'Trek XI'

Matt Damon claims to have heard nothing about the rumours that J.J. Abrams wants him to play Captain James T. Kirk in the upcoming eleventh Star Trek movie, and his publicist insists that Abrams was probably joking when he mentioned Damon's name as a possibility.

The IESB spoke to both Damon and his publicist at a press conference for The Departed in New York City, asking about a story that has been circulating for much of this year and which has come to the attention of the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, who approves of the idea of Damon playing the character (story).

"Is there any truth to the rumor that J.J. Abrams has approached you to play James T. Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek movie?" the IESB asked Damon at the press conference, where Damon quickly said that he "hadn't heard anything about it."

Damon's publicist added that the story seemed to have come from a press junket Abrams had done for M:I-III, where he was asked about possible casting. "From my understanding it was one of those hypothetical questions actors always get about who they'd like to work with and JJ threw Matt's name out there," the publicist said. "But we've never heard anything on our end. I even called Endeavor, Matt's agency, to see if they had heard anything - they hadn't."

Maybe this idea will go away.

Honestly, the idea may be growing on me. I've heard it enough times that I started to really give it some thought. Big Matt will probably be able to do a good Kirk impersonation. It's not hard and Matt Damon can be funny and serious if he wants to. I'm not 100% against it but I still think that Star Trek should move beyond Kirk William Shatner.

A NEW New Doctor Who Spinoff!!!

The Sarah Jane Adventures

Russell T Davies has created The Sarah Jane Adventures, a brand new series for CBBC.

Set in present-day West London, the programme stars Elisabeth Sladen, continuing her much-loved role as Sarah Jane Smith*.

The show is going to be for kids but I'll catch it anyway. I'm SO glad that this got the greenlight and not a dreadful Rose Tyler show.


*Sarah Jane Smith is a fictional character played by Elisabeth Sladen in the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. An investigative journalist who was a companion of the Third and Fourth Doctors, she was a regular in the programme from 1973 to 1976, and has returned several times since, most recently in the 2006 episode School Reunion, opposite David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor.

Ron D Moore Keynote Speaker at Podcast Expo

Sci Fi Channel's Ronald D. Moore and TechTV Canada's Leo Laporte slated to speak at this year's event in Ontario, California.

Mission Viejo, CA (PRWEB) September 12, 2006 -- The Podcast & Portable Media Expo announced today that Ronald D. Moore, host of Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica podcast and Leo Laporte, founder and host of This Week in Tech (TWiT), are scheduled to speak during the second annual conference in Ontario, California on September 29 and 30.

Leo Laporte, who delivered the opening keynote address at last year's Podcast & Portable Media Expo, will return again this year. Leo currently hosts and produces several podcasts, including This Week in Tech (TWiT), Security Now!, Inside the Net, The Daily Giz Wiz, and FLOSS Weekly. Leo is "The Tech Guy" on radio station KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles and is also the host of Call for Help, a daily hour-long television show that airs in Canada and Australia.

Keynote sessions begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2006 in Ballroom C of the Ontario Convention Center. Talks will be followed by conference sessions and concurrent exhibits on the show floor. A special edition of the TWiT podcast will be recorded live Friday at 2:15 p.m. on the Exhibit Hall stage.

I actually listen to TWiT. I LOVE Leo Laporte's voice. Those guys drip with snark sometimes but it's a good show.

Eureka a hit in iTunes

I've noticed that Eureka has 5 episodes in "Today's Top TV Episodes" in iTunes. That's more than Project Runway which has only 2 entries and gets a million viewers on actual TV. It's also more than Prison Break which has only 3 entries.

The shows that people are downloading are Blink, Right as Raynes, Before I Forget, Invincible and Dr. Nobel. Way to go Eureka! Looks like slow and steady growth!

I've been listening to the Eureka podcast and from what I've heard there will be a second season and a DVD is in the works. It will have a lot of cut scenes and excluded special effects. Also, I was beginning to get a little worried about the fate of my favorite new show because the executive producer and co-creator, Andrew Cosby, was going to produce a new show in 2007. Listening to the "Blink" podcast commentary it appears that someone will be filling his shoes if such turns out to be the case.

Of course none of this is confirmed, I'm just trying to put two and two together on my favorite show.

Is utter happiness too much to ask of technology?

This is an excellent article. It should resonate with every sci-fi fan and gen x'er.

Where are the servant robots, the flying cars and the hover boards that we expected? Oh, and that reminds me, where's my jetpack?At the turn of the 19th century, visionaries such as Jules Verne and H.G. Wells spun wild tales of spaceflight and underwater adventure. In 1926, Hugo Gernsback introduced the first science-fiction magazine, Amazing Stories, with the motto: "Extravagant Fiction Today: Cold Fact Tomorrow." By the '60s and '70s, the Apollo missions made a lunar landing look like a trip to the beach. And don't even get me started on "Star Trek," with its tantalizing holodecks, transporters and universal translators.
