Lost: Happy Hippy Van

Why this wasn't called The Happy Hippy Van episode, I'll never know. We finally meet Hurley's dad and it's Cheech! That news happened so long ago that I forgot he was going to make an appearance.

The writers for this show are kicking major petuty. They are all over the map with the writing, presentation and story and I LOVE IT! After the episode "Not In Portland", I thought I had the whole show figured out. I'd accepted there was no creepy Twilight Zone factor and this was just some corporate experiment island thing gone wrong. Then the episode where Desmond time travels made me throw that all of that away again. Was it a dream, does Desmond time travel, did this guy run out of his lithium? Who knows? I'm still clueless.

Kate and Sawyer get back to the island, blah, blah, blah. Charlie is going to die. Oh NO!!! but blah, blah, blah. Hurley wants to fix a van. Stop the breaks! WTF?
Turned out to be a really fun episode that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling at the end. I guess we needed a feel good episode because Kate is going GI Jane next episode for Jack.
*yawns*
*rolls eyes*
*slaps self*
*waits obediently for next week*

You're Still Not Watching Supernatural?

What are you? Smoking Crack?
Or whatever you crazy kids do these days???

Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as Dean and Sam Winchester, two brothers who travel the country looking for and battling evil spirits along the way.

They kill vampires, zombies, windigo, ghosts, demons, angels... even gods. The latest episode introduces Loki. Great character. I hope to see more of him.

Airs on The CW at Thursday 9:00 PM. The next new episode airs on March 15th.

I Like SciFi's The Dresden Files

Harry Dresden is hot and the stories are decent. It's not the adrenaline rush that is Battlestar Galactica but I'd take it over Desperate Housewives any day of the week.

The latest episode of The Dresden Files introduced Bianca. She's an excellent addition to the show and I hope they have much more of her. Bianca is to Harry as Spike is to Buffy. In a round about sort of way.

I recently found out that SciFi is pulling a Fox and airing the show out of order. It should account for why the show seems like it's off to a dismal start. There's not enough back story. They should have shown the Bianca episode, Bad Blood, first. I think people would have more of a feel for the show and keep watching just for her. Not to say that Harry doesn't hold his own. It's just a bit tiresome when he has to play "Save The Bimbo of the Week" every episode.

Ghost Rider

Liked it!

It's not a movie that I'd watch over and over but I enjoyed what I saw. I probably liked it because I don't know much about the Ghost Rider lore, nor do I read the comic books.

Nicholas Cage is always a treat. Is it just me or does it look like he's not aging anymore? That scene where he took off his shirt to reveal a six pack was just amazing! GIRLIE SQUEAL!!!!!!

Anyway....
Cage gave the movie the right..... feel.... vibe.... whatever. He just does it for me and I can't figure out why. The rest of the cast was alright. The story was nice and sweet. The demons were two- dimensional and predictable. When Nicholas Cage had the burning skull on, I noticed some cheeseball dialogue issues. It reminded me of Spawn.

Other than those minor nitpicks. I liked it and I'd recommend it.

I'd also like to note that I was so excited about seeing this movie that I went alone. I can't remember the last time I did that.

Star Trek XI: Gift or Coal?

Christmas Day 2008 Release for "Star Trek XI"

So it's official, the new Star Trek movie will come out on Christmas Day 2008. That date suggests that this movie is going to be big. The thought of it coming out on Christmas Day makes my heart race a little bit. I feel excitement and anticipation.

I'm also concerned. Star Trek: Nemesis had tons of hype and was a "debacle" of sorts. (I really tried to like it.) JJ Abrams will have a little under TWO years to work on this film. Because there are no TV shows out, this movie will have to hit us hard like Wrath of Khan without being too reminiscent. I personally LOVED First Contact but I DO NOT want to see The Borg again. (Although The Borg episode of Enterprise was interesting)

Now for the subject matter. If we do get Matt Damon as Kirk, Ben Affleck HAS to be Spock! There's just no other choice. Then if we get those two together, this will HAVE to be a comedy. Personally, I like my Star Trek clean, serious, sterile and perfect.

Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best......

At last! We've all been wondering when it's coming out, who will be directing ... and we are still wondering who will be starring. (Yes, we too have heard plenty of unconfirmed rumors.) But for now we know this: J.J. Abrams will be directing "Star Trek XI," centering on the younger Kirk and Spock characters, and it will be coming out on Christmas Day 2008!

Battlestar Galactica: It's Good!

I'm a week behind as of this second but I'll probably catch up tonight. I love the second part of this season. I'm fully recovered from the New Caprica Debaucle. The 5 cylon story has me engaged. President Laura and her intense scene with Baltar impressed me. Adama is has a darker soul than anyone could have ever imagined. I mean submitting someone to an acid trip to get information? Very dark. Kara and Lee bore me to tears. I HATE THAT PLOT. I'm not big on mush and have a low tolerance for relationship drama. Leave or stay, have sex or don't, be happy or not; quite a binary attitude but it works for me.

Cylon predictions: Colonel Tigh, Gaeta, Dee, Kara's husband, Tyrol

It would be great for Baltar to be a cylon but like someone said before, that's too easy.

Slacktacular

Second Life has taken over my first life. I am a junkie.

I'm still podcasting so to hear my latest snarkiness you "tune in" to that.

Faux Klingons In The White House

Politicians are getting sillier and sillier. First tubes and now Wu and his Klingons. How does this guy expect anyone to take him seriously anymore?

from Trek Today:

The "Klingons in the White House" controversy continued this week when Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and George Takei (Sulu) both spoke on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, poking fun at the idea that they have never gotten past their celebrity as Star Trek stars.

The web site of Comedy Central has video of the phoned-in appearances, while StarTrek.com has a partial transcript. The discussion concerned remarks by Democratic Congressman David Wu of Oregon, who had likened President Bush's foreign policy team to Star Trek's warlike Klingons (story).

In response to Wu's demand that Congress not let false Klingons send real Americans to war, host Jon Stewart responded, "I believe the Constitution specifically states that only real Klingons have that power." He then called upon "Senior Star Trek Analogy Analyst" Nimoy, who feigned impatience with his ongoing association with Spock and then spent several minutes explaining that Wu's analogy was weak, citing details of the episode "Amok Time" to describe the differences between Klingons and Vulcans.

Nimoy's monologue was interrupted by a call from Takei, who objected when Stewart warned that he was already speaking to Nimoy by demanding, "And you felt his telephone voice was more distinctive than mine? Do you realize by our sixth film, I'd become a captain, while Spock had become marginalized?"

The entire segment featuring Nimoy and Takei may be watched at Comedy Central.

The clip on the Daily Show is hilarious. You have to check it out.

Thank You Bruce Campbell

After many weeks on the road and countless encounters at conventions, Bruce Campbell recently did a public service announcement for many of his unwashed fans. Take his advice people, it's Bruce Campbell, he knows what he's talking about.

...wait...

It was an actual commercial?

Bruce Campbell's Old Spice Commercial

btw... didn't you just love the tacky sofa noise when he got up and sat down? Classic.

Smallville: Tonight We Get Justice!!!

Program the TiVo boys, the time has come. I've been looking forward to this episode for weeks! It's finally here, tonight!
When Lex's Level 33.1 project comes to fruition, Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) must bring together several of Clark's "heroic" super-powered allies together: Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Bart Allen (Flash), and Victor Stone (Cyborg).
GIRLY SQUEAL!!!!!!

I think I'm going to bring it down a notch so I won't be dissappointed if it's not a good episode.

Stargate Atlantis: Carson Beckett

I "flew" up to Canada a couple of days ago and saw the most recent episode of Stargate: Atlantis. If you know what I'm talking about, don't spoil it here but know that I'm upset at this turn of events. We all knew that something was "up" because of the character because of the Saving Carson Beckett campaign. The episode is called Sunday. It's beautifully done and despite the outcome, the episode should win an award.

That's all I'll say.

Yes, I'm a Slacker

It took me some time to come out of holiday slack mode. Now that the new shows are starting to air, I feel the life coming back into me.

That and I'm totally addicted to Second Life.

Happy New Year!

It's been a crazy and fun holiday season for me. As soon as I sober up, I'll do a "2006 Reflection/ 2007 Projection" post. :)

For now, Happy New Year!

Indiana Jones Blah, Blah, Blah

It's on.
It's off.

I'm so tired of this news. I won't listen until I see a trailer. I won't belive until I'm out $9 for a ticket.

from sfgate.com:

George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited "Indiana Jones" movie will begin next year. Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again. Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

"It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be the best one yet," the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday's Rose Parade.

On another note:
Have any of you seen The Librarian movies with Noah Wyle? He's like a young, bookish Indiana Jones that's made for TV. They are pretty decent flicks.

Fake Dust From the Moon Needed

The people who need this fake dust is NASA.

Why does NASA keep letting stuff like this come out? First they lost the original tapes from the first "lunar landing". Now they run around telling folks they need fake moon dust.

... and they wonder why the "Web generation" is apathetic towards space travel.

Yes, I know that they found the tapes now and I understand why they need the lunar dust. I guess it's the reporter's fault for wording the headline in such a way that continues to make NASA look like a big joke. There is such a think as bad press in this case.

David Tennant Leaving Doctor Who Scare

from SF Signal:
It's hard to find a reliable Time Lord these days...

The Sun is reporting that the second actor to play Doctor Who in the new series, David Tennant, will be following in the footsteps of the former Doctor and will be leaving the show. Apparently Tennant has been bombarded with film offers after appearing in the last Harry Potter movie and will be leaving Doctor Who in the middle of season 3 of the new series.

[via Geek Monthly]

UPDATE: As mentioned by commenters, the BBC is denying this.

I was UPSET andhystericall when I saw that headline! I think my blood pressure went up. :)
It's too soon to lose ANOTHER Doctor. I'm just now getting used to Tennant. I like him and he's MY Doctor now. Losing him now would make the show a too unstable in my eyes. I don't want a new Doctor every season. Perhaps we can get a new one every five years but let us get used to one Time Lord at a time. We already lost Rose last season and watching this year's Christmas Special, I already miss her.

Yeah, I said it.

I didn't particularly care for this year's Christmas Special. It didn't have that spark that I was looking for. I was bored with the same killer Santa bots from last year. I was bored with the over-the-top Spider Lady... thing. The bride chick was annoying... well, she had her cute moments. It was just too typical a show. It felt likeTennant was trying to be funny but his chemistry wasn't meshing with everyone elses or vice-versa. I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
It was a good episode overall but Rose's absence was felt.
Instead of Christmas, maybe they should use other holidays like New Year's. Since we have to wait until July for a new show, what's the harm in a Valentine's Day special? Leprechaun in a Tardis?

I'm really looking forward to the new season though. The previews look WAY cool. It also looks like the Doctor and his new companion may bicker. That would be awesome and interesting.

New Heroes Clip

Now I just have to remember to watch this. I guess if I miss it I can always catch it on YouTube :)

from SciFi Wire:

Masi Oka, who recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Hiro Nakamura on the NBC series Heroes, will reveal an exclusive clip from upcoming episode on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the network announced. The actor will show a preview of the episode titled "Godsend," guest-starring former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston as a mysterious man whose special power is hinted at in his name—Claude. "Godsend," the first new episode of the year, airs Monday, Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Holiday Break and Back

I took a mini holiday hiatus. Had to get somethings done. Posting will still be spotty but I'll be back in full force after the New Year.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Legal Downloads in UK

from Gallifreyan Embassy:

It may no longer be necessary to use "other means" to get Doctor Who episodes outside the UK.

Outpost Gallifrey today confirmed a story coming from Business Wire involving a new partnership between BBC Worldwide and Palo Alto-based company, Azureus.

Under terms of the deal, Azureus will provide a peer-to-peer platform by which the BBC can push DVD-quality content into computers worldwide.

Shows included in this deal are: Red Dwarf, Strange, Invasion Earth, Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers, Coupling, Keeping Up Appearances, League of Gentlemen, and Ideal. The list is expected to keep growing.

The client which will carry this content out of the UK is currently codenamed "Zudeo". It's presently a standard feature of some iterations of the Linux OS, but will be available as a free download to other operating systems early next year. The content itself is likewise slated for 1Q 2007 availability.

What is not clear in the announcement is precisely which part of the Doctor Who catalogue will be made available in this way. Though it is likely that older episodes might be made available, the fact that Invasion Earth is making its US debut via this method may mean that the BBC will allow the newest episodes of Doctor Who to debut on broadband as well.

Hmmm. Will this mean that I can stop flying to the UK every week to watch Torchwood and Doctor Who?

AMC Channel is Pushing Ahead With 'The Prisoner'

from Hollywood Reporter:
AMC is getting into the sci-fi business with a remake of the 1960s series "The Prisoner."

The cable network is set to co-produce with the U.K.'s Granada and Sky One a new version of the sci-fi thriller, which aired from 1967-68 on CBS. The remake will feature a similar story line to the original series, which starred Patrick McGoohan, who also was creator, producer, writer and director.

"Prisoner" will follow a man who finds himself inexplicably trapped in "the Village," with no memory of how he arrived. All of the inhabitants are identified by number instead of name, have no memory of a previous existence or outside civilization and are under constant surveillance. The man, Number Six, sets out to discover the truth behind the Village, why he's there and how he can escape.

The remake will be written by Bill Gallagher (BBC's "Conviction," "Clocking Off"). Granada's Michelle Buck and Damien Timmer will produce.

Production on the hour long series is scheduled to begin in the spring for a worldwide premiere targeted for January 2008.

I'm excited about this. I remember hearing about this before but I thought it was just a rumor. I also remember some people voicing concerns about the production quality and whether a remake was necessary. I wish it was going to be longer than just 6 or 8 episodes.

Invisible is the New Black

from: Slashdot
The race to build an exotic material with a negative refractive index for visible light has been won by a team of researchers in Germany. The demonstration could open the door to a new generation of optical devices such as superlenses able to see details finer then the wavelength of visible light.

It may also lead to further breakthroughs in "invisibility cloaks" which could hide objects from the human eye.

Light waves consist of alternating electric and magnetic fields that interact with materials as they travel, or propagate. This interaction determines a property of the material called its refractive index, which is a measure of the behaviour of light as it passes through the material. The refractive index describes the way the light waves bend when they enter and leave the material and the speed at which they propagate.
No more asking "Honey, does this make me look fat". Just put on a dress that hides love handles. SWEET!

Star Trek Legacy Ships for Xbox 360

From: Daily Game

Bethesda Softworks today shipped its new strategy/action game, STAR TREK: Legacy, for the Xbox 360. The game's Windows counterpart released last week.

STAR TREK: Legacy places gamers in the Admiral's chair as they command a hand-selected fleet of starships into battle. The single-player Federation campaign and multiplayer modes span the entire STAR TREK Universe, with more than 80 ships and four playable races (Federation, Romulan, Gorn or Borg).

The game features the voices of all five actors who portrayed the original captains: William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks and Kate Mulgrew. In addition, Bethesda worked with acclaimed STAR TREK writer Dorothy "D.C." Fontana, and her writing partner, Derek Chester, to provide authentic storylines for STAR TREK: Legacy.

OMG!!! The voices from all of the captains! That sounds amazing. I wonder if the game will be any good. The last Star Trek game that I bought was Birth of a Federation. It was basically Sid Meier's Civilization in the Star Trek Universe. I enjoyed it but it only played on Windows 98. To bad they never released any new versions of that game. It was a really good one.

Apple Sues the Makers of Aquapod

Apple sue the makers of Aquapod for using "pod" in the brandname of this water.

Just kidding...

Those are just the cutest bottles of water ever.

Space Storm Tomorrow!

We are supposed to have a pretty major space storm tomorrow. I've alwasy wanted to see the Northern Lights. One of these days...

from Space.com: New Forecast: Severe Space Storm Headed to Earth

Space weather forecasters revised their predictions for storminess after a major flare erupted on the Sun overnight threatening damage to communication systems and power grids while offering up the wonder of Northern Lights.

"We're looking for very strong, severe geomagnetic storming" to begin probably around mid-day Thursday, Joe Kunches, Lead Forecaster at the NOAA Space Environment Center, told SPACE.com this afternoon.

The storm is expected to generate aurora or Northern Lights, as far south as the northern United States Thursday night.

Kaylee Walks Through the Stargate

If you don't know, Jewel Staite will have a recurring role on Stargate: Atlantis. Read more about it below.

from Slice of SciFi:
Jewel Talks About Drs’ Beckett and Keller
When Stargate Atlantis begins its Season Four this coming summer, as we have already reported, one major character will pull a disappearing act while a shiney face comes on board with her own brand of stethoscope.

Firefly/Serenity Actress Jewel Staite spoke briefly about her recurring role as Doctor Keller on the show in her blog.

The Lost Room is Awesome!

SciFi Channel, you are doing a damned good job with this one.

I remember being excited about The Triangle last year and being a bit disappointed with it.
The Lost Room had a bit of the same hype and I thought it was going to be a bit mediocre. Boy was I wrong and I'm glad!

The story is intriguing. I love the concept of the objects and watching the show, I now understand why the game they have could be so much fun. They could even get away with selling an adventure video game based on this. Right now, I'd be excited about it.

Tonight we get the ending to the story and I can't wait. I think SciFi is showing reruns of it so if you can check it out, do so.

Torchwood Doesn't Get Axed!

from SciFi Wire:
Torchwood Gets Second Season
The BBC reported that it has ordered a second season of Torchwood, the hit Doctor Who

Doctor Who creator Russell T. Davies also created Torchwood (an anagram of Doctor Who), which is set in Cardiff, Wales, and centers on an extra-governmental team of investigators who use alien technology to solve crime, both alien and human.

Filming for the second season (called a "series" in Britain) is due to start in Cardiff next spring, and the programs will air later in 2007 in the U.K.
spinoff series, which will air on BBC Two in the United Kingdom. The series is produced by BBC Wales; the first season, starring John Barrowman as immortal time-traveler Captain Jack Harkness, has broken ratings records on BBC Three.
All in all, the first season isn't a bad season. There were a few noticeable holes here in there but I'm really happy that this show didn't get canned. It will have room to grow and that always gets a "yay".

Flanvention Planners Scam Browncoats? WTF?

I just heard about the mishap with Booster Entertainment and Flanvention. Flanvention was supposed to be a big Browncoat event. It got cancelled, the website is down and no one has recieved a refund. People have lost money on tickets and hotel. This sucks ass. I hope the is turns out ok for those people.

On a brighter note Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin and Mark Sheppard showed up just to make things better for the fans.

DUDE!!! Mel Gibson is Australian???

Oh, I'm going to have to give Lynne from Sci-Fi News some sh*t about this!

Apocalypto: Mel's Bloody New Beginning?
Los Angeles (E! Online) - Hey, whatever happened to that Australian hottie, the one who starred in the Lethal Weapon franchise, was People's inaugural Sexiest Man Alive in 1985 and then won two Oscars for that Scottish movie 10 years later?

Well, we hear he has since moved behind the camera, a better place to helm blood-drenched epics such as Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto, which opens Friday and has been deemed the bloodiest of them all.

After Passion of the Christ and all of these strange comments, I don't trust Mel Gibson anymore. Apocalypto is a movie about the end of the Mayan civilization. I kinda don't care. I'm more worried about the end of this civilization.
I'm still bitter about The Fountain so I'm feeling a bit more cautious about my movie dollars.

I won't be seeing this in theatres. Maybe one day when I'm bored and curious I'll watch it but I'm not making plans.

My, someone is in a cranky mood. Read: me.
