OMG! The Vatican Says I Can Believe in Aliens!

Vatican: It's OK to believe in aliens - Yahoo! News

ET is my brother.

This statement seems like it will cause a problem for the church somewhere down the line but it's good news today. I still doesn't make up for the fact that genetic manipulation is a sin. I really wanted to "get my hands" on one of those genetic supermen.

Sad Day for Startrek.com

There have been rumors about the demise of startrek.com since 2005. This time it's the staff that is being eliminated and not the site itself. Apparently, there were 6 staffers maintaining the site. I'm surprised that they had a job for this long especially since there are no new Trek shows on. I hope this isn't harsh but right now startrek.com is a glorified encyclopedia. There is the occasional news about an actor doing this or that but there isn't really any new developments.

...except a MOVIE!! It seems odd that they would let the guys go with the new movie coming out. They could have least let the guys stay on until after that.

Back From Seeing Star Trek in the Theater

I'm fresh out of the theater from seeing Star Trek: The Menagerie. I was really excited to see the episode on the big screen. It was the re-mastered version and it looked amazing. The scenes that really stood out were the space scenes; the stars are now in 3D. The ship looks 100% better. The ship is totally CGI now (I think). There was one major scene that was re-done. It was an overhead Enterprise shot of the crew. It was phenomenal and worth the ticket price alone.

As far as the audience, there was only one guy in a partial uniform. I had on Star Trek earrings but you had to really be in my face and know the logo to tell. I didn't really see anyone in Star Trek t-shirts. To my surprise, I didn't see any of the usual Trekkies out either. The theater was packed and the audience was responsive. We even applauded at the end.

I went to the Houston showing at Studio 30.

Star Trek Cast Update

Yes... I know I'm late on this one. I turn my head for one second and we have Kirk, Bones and a different but acceptable Scotty! I really wanted Paul McGillion for Scotty but Simon Pegg is a great choice too. With Simon, you know there is going to be humor without effort. This also has to be a dream job for him because he is such a geek.

The startrek.com website asks the question "Who should play Pike?" Looks like imdb.com has it rumored that it will be Mike Vogel. Does this mean that it's official that the new movie will center around the original episode "The Menagerie"?

More on "The Menagerie" debut.

I getting a bit more excited about this project. They are really doing a great job with casting.
If it's actually good, I will go back to watch a second time in costume. (not)

From imdb.com:
Cast (in alphabetical order)

Eric Bana ... Nero

Simon Pegg ... Scotty

Zoe Saldana ... Nyota Uhura

Mike Vogel ... (rumored)

Leonard Nimoy ... Spock

John Cho ... Sulu

Top 5 Most Fashionable Science Fiction TV Shows

This list includes current shows that are still airing. This list does not refer to costuming but stylish modern clothing.

[5] Lost
Not because of the ratty clothes they wear on the island but the clothes in the flash backs. I knew that the stylist of Lost paid attention to fashion when I recognized a Catherine Malandrino dress on Sun.

[4] Smallville
It's all about Chloe; from her hair to her personal style. She always looks awesome. She can go from youthful casual to news office preppy and still look chic.

[3] Eureka
Allison and Nathan always look fantastic. Nathan's suits drape off of his body like a dream. Allison always looks classy. Sometimes she goes power suit, sometimes she goes business casual. She is at her best when she's in a flirty dress. Chloe has a unique youthful style. Her first season was a little rough around the edges because they let her dress herself. I can tell that someone has put their foot down.

[2] The 4400
The hair in The 4400 is amazing. I will go as far to say that 4400 has the best hair in science fiction. Diana's sister, April went from being a tragic proto- goth to a fabulous bird. I'm still drooling over the outfit in her last appearance. Though I didn't like the character, Alana always had on something funky and urban. Kyle's imaginary friend, Cassie has a great artsy, coffee house thing going on. They even brought in a new girl to give the geek boys fashion tips!

[1] Heroes
Two words: Grandma Petrelli. I've had such a fashion crush on her every since I saw her in her Burberry jacket. Nothing gets me all aflutter like Burberry. She always has on a diva mink collared/cuffed coat. When I grow up, I want to be as stylish as Angela Petrelli.

Honorable Mentions:
Charmed; The stylist on this show took risks. Some of them were wild but for the most part the Charmed Ones looked really great.
Buffy; The first couple of season were HORRIFIC! In the later seasons, Sarah Michelle Gellar became a bit of a fashion icon. She is still seen at fashion events. (Go back to blonde!)
Star Trek: The Original Series; Even though this is a costumed drama, Star Trek inspired me to learn how to sew.

New Star Trek Movie is an Old Star Trek Episode

Trek 'Menagerie' Screens Nationally
A remastered version of the original two-part Star Trek episode "The Menagerie" will screen in select movie theaters around the country in a one-night event on Nov. 13.

Digitally remastered in high definition, with Cinema Surround Sound, the episodes will be screened along with an introduction from Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's son, Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, as well as with a behind-the-scenes look at how the episodes were remastered and a new 30-minute in-theater featurette. The episodes will feature new computer-generated visual effects and an orchestral re-recording of the show's theme music.

The screening will be presented by NCM Fathom, CBS Home Entertainment and StarTrek.com at 7:30 p.m. local time in nearly 300 participating AMC, Cinemark, Georgia Theatre Co. and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters.

Tickets for the screenings are on sale now for $12.50 at theater box offices or online at FathomEvents.com.

w00t! It's playing in a theater near me!

"The Menagerie" is the two part episode featuring Captain Christopher Pike. In this adventure, Spock gets court-martialed for hijacking the Enterprise. It's an intriguing story because logical and loyal Spock is not behaving like himself. He also is saying much that makes sense. This story uses a bunch of flashbacks from the un-aired Pilot episode of Star Trek. I loved this story and they have my favorite character the green Orion Slave Girl in this movie!!! GIRLIE SQUEALTM!!! :P

Rod Roddenbery will do an intro to the movie. We will also get to see some extras on how everything was made. I can't wait!

Is more promotion for the new movie? Will the new movie use elements from this plot? Will the buzz get me so excited that I will wear a Star Trek uniform while standing in line?

I'm really impressed with all that is being done to breathe life back into the franchise. The real question is will Star Trek be reborn a phoenix or a zombie?

I Called It: McGillion Might Be Scotty

Back on Sept. 14th I suggested that Paul McGillion should be Scotty in the new Star Trek movie. It's not official but he auditioned for the part! There's no one else for this part. They should shut down the audition and just give the part to him.

Speaking of Paul, in this same article giving us the happy news about the audition, the SciFi Wire also reveals that Dr. Beckett will be in A FEW episodes in the fourth season. I'm going to have to give a WTF?!?!?!? I've already mourned his death. I shed actual tears. I've healed. I've moved on. I'm happy to see him back but I'm slightly annoyed too. If it's all flashback, I'm going to be really cranky.

We Have a New Uhura! ...and Checkov!

Zoe Saldana is Nyota Uhura. They couldn't have picked a better lady. She's of Afro-Dominican descent so she's really adding diversity to the cast. We've seen her in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl as Anamaria. I haven't seen anything else that she's in but I'm sure she'll be fine. Good luck Zoe!

Also... Checkov has been cast! When did this happen? There should have been dancing in the streets! :) Anton Yelchin is Pavel Checkov. We've seen him in "Taken" and "Criminal Minds". He's actually from Russian. Nice!

I also noticed that Leonard Nimoy was listed in the cast. I didn't realize that the original Star Trek cast was going to be in this. I'm willing to bet my year's salary that Shatner is going to hold out to join the cast at the last minute. He's such a Diva.

I'm getting a bit more excited about the project but I'm still too burned by Highlander: The Source to let myself get too excited.

Zachary Quinto is to Spock as ??? is to Kirk

Of course Zachary Quinto playing the role of Spock isn't news to any of us sci-fi geeks but I have to ask THE question. Can Zachary Quinto help make Star Trek cool again? I think so... I hope so.

He's been making his interest in this project known. He's even been hanging out with Leonard Nimoy. I wish all actors were this dedicated. Let's face it, any actor who touches Star Trek is immortalized in the eyes of the fans forever. He'll be in the official encyclopedia, have posters out the wazoo, trading cards, action figures... hell, even a plushie toy. It also takes him from TV to film which always a good step for an actor.

Quinto as Spock mean this next Star Trek film is going in the right direction. If we can get James Kyson Lee as Sulu, Sanaa Lathan as Uhura, Paul McGillion as Scotty and ... hmmmm.... who would play Chekov? Most importantly, who will play Kirk? I'm not opposed to Matt Damon. I was against the idea at first but his performance in The Departed convinced me that he would be able to handle the role.

I'm starting to warm up to this next Star Trek film.

Nichelle Nicohls on Heroes

Nichelle "Uhura" Nichols will be on Heroes next season!!!!

*GIRLIE SQUEAL!!!!*

All we need is Kirk and we'll have a TOS triumvirate thing going on. :)

Trek's Nichelle Nichols Talks About Her Heroes Role

First Sulu, now Uhura. Once again, Heroes has boldly gone back to classic Star Trek for a cool casting coup: Sci-fi icon Nichelle Nichols will join fellow Trekker George Takei as a recurring player on the hit NBC series.

Showing up in the season's fourth episode, Nichols will play Nana, a New Orleans doyenne whose daughter died during Hurricane Katrina. "Nana is tough and undaunted and — like the blues — she just keeps rising to the occasion," Nichols says. The character, who is in dire financial straits, has moved back into her once-flooded home, where she cares for her two grandchildren. One of them, new hero Monica (The Nine's Dana Davis), is an avenging angel intent on bringing justice to the corruption-plagued Big Easy. Nana is also a great-aunt to Micah, the junior hero played by series regular Noah Gray-Cabey. "Micah is sent to New Orleans to live with the family," Nichols says. "It's a quite marvelous, magical story, with wonderful things emerging." Does Nana have a superpower? "Well, that remains to be seen, now doesn't it?" coos Nichols.

The actress confirmed her much-rumored Heroes gig at a recent Trek convention in Las Vegas, where she reports that "the entire room went insane. I felt like I was Oprah giving out cars!"

lmao @ giving out cars.

Star Trek TOS Gets 4th Season

No.... not with Star Trek: New Voyages (which and watched and love BTW) but with a comic book. Like Buffy.

It was supposed to come out today but I haven't seen any news on it.

Scotty Finally Getting Beamed Up

from SciFi Wire:
Doohan Trekking To Space

The remains of actor James Doohan, who played the starship Enterprise's chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott on Star Trek, will be blasted into space this month, the company organizing the flight told the Reuters news service. The Canadian-born actor died two years ago at the age of 85.

The Houston-based commercial company Space Services Inc. told Reuters that some of Doohan's remains were packed into a rocket at Las Cruces, New Mexico, on March 30, ahead of the flight scheduled for April 28.

The company had originally planned to blast Doohan's remains into space two years ago. But the flight was delayed by tests, then by a misfire during a practice launch last year.
For the record, this is what I want when I go.

Star Trek XI: Gift or Coal?

Christmas Day 2008 Release for "Star Trek XI"

So it's official, the new Star Trek movie will come out on Christmas Day 2008. That date suggests that this movie is going to be big. The thought of it coming out on Christmas Day makes my heart race a little bit. I feel excitement and anticipation.

I'm also concerned. Star Trek: Nemesis had tons of hype and was a "debacle" of sorts. (I really tried to like it.) JJ Abrams will have a little under TWO years to work on this film. Because there are no TV shows out, this movie will have to hit us hard like Wrath of Khan without being too reminiscent. I personally LOVED First Contact but I DO NOT want to see The Borg again. (Although The Borg episode of Enterprise was interesting)

Now for the subject matter. If we do get Matt Damon as Kirk, Ben Affleck HAS to be Spock! There's just no other choice. Then if we get those two together, this will HAVE to be a comedy. Personally, I like my Star Trek clean, serious, sterile and perfect.

Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best......

At last! We've all been wondering when it's coming out, who will be directing ... and we are still wondering who will be starring. (Yes, we too have heard plenty of unconfirmed rumors.) But for now we know this: J.J. Abrams will be directing "Star Trek XI," centering on the younger Kirk and Spock characters, and it will be coming out on Christmas Day 2008!

Faux Klingons In The White House

Politicians are getting sillier and sillier. First tubes and now Wu and his Klingons. How does this guy expect anyone to take him seriously anymore?

from Trek Today:

The "Klingons in the White House" controversy continued this week when Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and George Takei (Sulu) both spoke on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, poking fun at the idea that they have never gotten past their celebrity as Star Trek stars.

The web site of Comedy Central has video of the phoned-in appearances, while StarTrek.com has a partial transcript. The discussion concerned remarks by Democratic Congressman David Wu of Oregon, who had likened President Bush's foreign policy team to Star Trek's warlike Klingons (story).

In response to Wu's demand that Congress not let false Klingons send real Americans to war, host Jon Stewart responded, "I believe the Constitution specifically states that only real Klingons have that power." He then called upon "Senior Star Trek Analogy Analyst" Nimoy, who feigned impatience with his ongoing association with Spock and then spent several minutes explaining that Wu's analogy was weak, citing details of the episode "Amok Time" to describe the differences between Klingons and Vulcans.

Nimoy's monologue was interrupted by a call from Takei, who objected when Stewart warned that he was already speaking to Nimoy by demanding, "And you felt his telephone voice was more distinctive than mine? Do you realize by our sixth film, I'd become a captain, while Spock had become marginalized?"

The entire segment featuring Nimoy and Takei may be watched at Comedy Central.

The clip on the Daily Show is hilarious. You have to check it out.

Star Trek Legacy Ships for Xbox 360

From: Daily Game

Bethesda Softworks today shipped its new strategy/action game, STAR TREK: Legacy, for the Xbox 360. The game's Windows counterpart released last week.

STAR TREK: Legacy places gamers in the Admiral's chair as they command a hand-selected fleet of starships into battle. The single-player Federation campaign and multiplayer modes span the entire STAR TREK Universe, with more than 80 ships and four playable races (Federation, Romulan, Gorn or Borg).

The game features the voices of all five actors who portrayed the original captains: William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks and Kate Mulgrew. In addition, Bethesda worked with acclaimed STAR TREK writer Dorothy "D.C." Fontana, and her writing partner, Derek Chester, to provide authentic storylines for STAR TREK: Legacy.

OMG!!! The voices from all of the captains! That sounds amazing. I wonder if the game will be any good. The last Star Trek game that I bought was Birth of a Federation. It was basically Sid Meier's Civilization in the Star Trek Universe. I enjoyed it but it only played on Windows 98. To bad they never released any new versions of that game. It was a really good one.

CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON JOINS HEROES!!!

from Trek Today....

George Takei (Sulu) will play time-traveler Hiro's father on NBC's hit series Heroes.

E! Online has reported that Takei will play the father of Hiro Nakamura, the young Japanese Star Trek fan who can move through time and space using only his will.

"This is absolutely brilliant," said Masi Oka, who plays the enthusiastic young time traveler bent on saving the world. "Hiro's father is this big honcho who shows up in America with his bodyguard. He has this whole elaborate scheme to...take him back to Japan."

"I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!'" added Oka. "The sci-fi fans would love it!"

Last Monday, E! Online's Kristin Veitch said that a face familiar to genre fans would be joining Heroes, where the ninth Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston, will be be joining the cast as well.

The 69-year-old Takei will first appear in the January 29th cliffhanger episode.

The Trek Nation will publish an exclusive interview with Takei next week. The original news item is here.

We get Sulu AND a Doctor! This show just gets better and better!
