Lost Room Hype

I'll watch the show but I can't figure out all of the hype about it. The marketing campaign seems like it's bigger than the show itself.

You can check it out for yourself. If you "get" the hype be sure to let me know what it's all about.

SCI FI Channel Sets Huge Bounty for The Lost Room

Interactive, Multi-platform Promotional Campaign Invites Participants to Join the Supernatural Search for Clues, Objects and Prize Money

New York, NY -- In The Lost Room, doors lead to unexpected places, a clock tells more than time, a bus ticket offers a truly transporting experience and a deck of cards provides the ultimate in sleight of hand. SCI FI Channel will promote the December 11th premiere of The Lost Room, a sleek new miniseries, with an interactive multimedia bounty hunt for objects and clues associated with the program and a chance to win $5,000,000.

The integrated campaign drives awareness and interest by providing a multi-platform media experience that is as intriguing, mysterious and entertaining as the show itself, which airs December 11, 12 and 13th at 9 pm ET/PT. The Lost Room continues SCI FI’s successful tradition of record-breaking blockbuster television events such as Battlestar Galactica, Steven Spielberg Presents: TAKEN and The Triangle.

SCI FI’s viral campaign exposes consumers to the mysteries of The Lost Room using an innovative mix of interactive media and coded messaging. With a unique blend of on and off-air messages, an imaginative use of multi-media platforms, and other guerilla marketing tactics, the campaign enhances traditional awareness and tune-in efforts by reinforcing the uniqueness of this SCI FI thriller.

“We wanted to convey a sense of mystery and excitement around amassing seemingly unrelated clues found throughout a broad range of media to literally preview The Lost Room experience for viewers,“ said Adam Stotsky, Senior Vice President, Marketing, SCI FI. “By enticing consumers to join the hunt for clues and objects we enable audiences to interact with The Lost Room directly.”

The Fugitive meets The Twilight Zone in this contemporary sci-fi thriller. When homicide detective Joe Miller, portrayed by Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), stumbles upon a seemingly innocuous motel room key, he unlocks the door to a world of unimaginable power and becomes the target of those who will stop at nothing to claim it. The motel room is a treasure trove of seemingly mundane objects, each of which actually possesses a unique power. And as Joe soon discovers, the motel room key is the most potent and coveted object of all.

I like it; it reminds me a lot of the Tim Powers books - Expiration Date, etc.

I thought the show was great! I am not sure if a series will be good, but the mini-series was fantastic.

i think the mini-series was awsome and that they should definetly make a series out off it.
