Wachowski Brothers Doing Speed Racer

Who is still bitter about Matrix 3 raise your hand?
*scifirantergirl raises her hand*

Who cut the Wachowski's a little slack because of V for Vendetta raise your hand?
*scifirantergirl looks around and raises her hand reluctantly*

Who is pumped up about Speed Racer but unsure about the Wachowski involvement?
*scifirantergirl raises her hand*

SciFi Wire reports:
Producer Joel Silver told reporters to expect a trailer for the Wachowski brothers' upcoming film adaptation of the anime classic Speed Racer sometime around Christmas. Speaking at a news conference to promote Fred Claus, Silver said the live-action movie is "a wild ride," adding: "There's going to be a trailer out at Christmas, and it's pretty spectacular. So you'll see it pretty soon."

Talking about his longtime collaborators, Silver said: "The Wachowski brothers can't do anything easy. You know, they want to make it as hard as they possibly can. So it's a movie that has a look that you have never seen before, and it's really a vast panorama for the story."

If you read the rest of the article, it talks a good talk. It peaked my interest. Deep down, I really want to forgive the Wachowski's for Matrix 3. Will Speed Racer make up for it? I don't know. What I do know is that I used to watch this cartoon as a little girl. Truth be told, I had a little crush on Speed Racer. I look at Emile in the picture up there and I'm not in love. He looks like he can work though. We'll see...

X-Files 2: Electric Boogaloo

Here we go again. You know it's a slow news day when they break out the X-Files sequel rumors. SciFi Wire reports that comingsoon.net heard that X-Files 2 might be shooting in Vancouver beginning December 10th.

Let me predict what's going to happen. Either Gillian Anderson, David Duchovney or Chris Carter (or another cast member) is going to dispute the rumor and announce a new project that they are working on. It happens every six months.

Pay no attention to this story. I eat no crow until I have an X-Files 2 ticket in my hand.

Who's That Masked Journeyman?

Heroes: The Line

Monica Dawson is taken to the company. Bob Goldfinger wants to test a new Shanti virus on her. It will take away her powers. Mohinder refuses to give her the shot. While making his case, Mohinder notices a file for Adam Monroe. Bob apologizes. Monica is released and sent home. She is escorted by Bob and he gives her the tools she would need to help her community.

HRG and The Hatian interrogates a man for information on the 7 paintings. They torture him by taking memories out of his head. He cooperates but still is shot in the face for his time. I hate that they are making HRG bad again. I still have a soft spot for him.

Claire needs to be on the cheerleading squad to maintain her lie to her dad. Debbie, a Cordellia Chase type, isn't feeling Claire and won't let her in. Claire and West set up a flying/ death scene that freaks a drunk Debbie out. Debbie tells the cops about a flying masked man and a dead Claire. Clair walks up alive and kicking on the crime scene. Debbie is suspended and Claire is let on the squad. Like father, like daughter.

Alejandro wants to leave Sylar behind. Maya think he is a gift from God. They drive to the American/Mexican border, take out some border patrol and are now in America. God bless us.

During a battle Hiro stops time and pops up in an empty field. Yaeko figures out that Hiro was the Kensei that she fell in love with. The real Kensei see them kiss. Hiro figures out that it was the kiss that fractured time. Kensei betrays Hiro and joins forces with White Beard.

The barkeep is dead. Peter and his girlfriend go to Montreal and discover that Adam Monroe was expecting them. Who is this Adam Monroe. We, as the audience, haven't met him. Peter says a "who am I prayer" and teleports himself to a year from now. New York is destroyed... again.

I was really into this episode until the NY gets destroyed part at the end. Please don't make this entire season about saving NY again. I want something different. NY has been destroyed so many times. Enough already. Other than that? Kick ass.

Battlestar Galactica In a Theatre Not Near Me

Yes! I'm whining and moaning because Battlestar Galatcica: Razor will not be airing in Houston. It will be showing in Dallas but it's a 5 hour drive. I'm really considering the trip but tickets aren't guaranteed. If I do all that driving and don't get in, someone is going to loose a body part.
... in other news, a crazy science fiction fan is arrested because they wouldn't let her see Battlestar Galactica: Razor at a special screening...
I guess I have to be like everyone else and see it on TV. I guess I need to move to Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco or Seattle. These are the lucky cities that will have the screening. Hmmmm..... seriously thinking about packing up to Seattle. :) Le

Learn more about this event at Slice of SciFi.com and www.BattlestarEvent.com. If you are in one of those cities, report back. Let us know how it went!

Supernatural is Off to a Good Start

The CW's Supernatural is at it again. This much slept on show is in it's third season and keeps getting better and better. Dean only has a year to live but his sexual appetite is a bit of a turn off. Sam isn't whining as much. I hope it stays that way. The casualties are piling up since the boys let demons out of hell last season. They got to deal with the Seven Horsemen early in the season. That's pretty bad, I'm wondering just how bad it's going to get.

Doesn't matter, I really only want to see Daddy Winchester. We all know how I feel about him. Rawr! He's such a DILF!
This just in!!!

from Wikipedia:
It has been confirmed that Morgan will portray The Comedian, a cigar-chomping vigilante, in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Watchmen, based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore.

What is it About Lost Actors Getting Drunk and Driving?

Police Arrest a Fourth “Lost” Star in Hawaii

Every time there is local news about the Lost cast, it is always about them driving drunk. The article points out that this is the fourth actor to get busted for drinking and driving. These guys need to do some public service announcements.

What is it about the Lost show that has the actors drinking so much? I understand that acting is stressful but enough is enough. Also, do the Hawaii police go out looking to bust these guys. It sounds like a running joke. The cast needs to go down to the station and take pictures and give out autographs. The HPD shouldn't have to go to such extremes to get some face time with the cast.

Fifth Season for Stargate Atlantis

The SciFi Wire reports that Stargate Atlantis will have a fifth season. This is wonderful news and isn't a surprise to me.

Believe it or not, I haven't watched any of the current season. The only shows that I've been watching regulary are Heroes, Journeyman and Bionic Woman. I still have Dexter, Stargate: Atlantis and Pushing Daisies. I have the first episode of Moonlight on my iPod. I have to find Supernatural and Bloodties. Days should be 36 hours and weekends should be 3 days. :)

Is anyone watching Stargate: Atlantis? Is good this season and why?

CSI: NY Does Second Life

If CSI: Vegas is classic and nerdy. CSI: Miami is the ghetto, red- headed step child. CSI: NY is the hip, savvy one of all of them.

Last week CSI: NY did time travel. They were even geeky enough to include a Doctor Who reference and sound effect. This week, the show is heading into my favorite virtual world, Second Life. I'm SO excited about this. I can't wait to see what they are going to do in my world.

If you still haven't explored Second Life, you owe it to yourself to do so. Later next week, I'll compile a list of recommended places in- world. If you haven't signed up, you can use this link to do so. My user ID is Trinity Hartunian. Look me up and IM me in-world and I can show you around. Jvstin Tommorrow and I have already hung out. He's taken to Second Life like a fish to water. Fly my beautiful bird, fly! .... er..... Swim my beautiful fish, swim! :) JStrider is in there as well as a few more sci-fi geeks.

This episode entitled "Avatar" will air on CBS; Wednesday, October 24, 2007.

From the NYTimes:
But in the episode for Oct. 24, Taylor, played by Gary Sinise, finds himself entering the computer-based virtual world known as Second Life, walking (and sometimes flying) around three-dimensional, animated Manhattan landmarks, recreated by a technique called machinima, and pursuing not a suspect but an avatar.
They are also planning an in- world experience and event!

If all goes well, Mr. Zuiker said, the episode will contain two 30-second promotional messages directing viewers to CBS.com, promising a “live simulation” letting them experience Second Life for themselves. “You can pick one of 12 avatars,” Mr. Zuiker said. “It will download in five to nine minutes. My own avatar will be there to greet you.”

Mr. Zuiker said the first level of participation, the simplest, will allow viewers to walk around the representations of New York buildings and then visit a CSI lab, where they can play basic forensic games, like facial recognition.

The second level is much more elaborate. It consists of a game called “Murder by Zuiker,” based on a murder plot that Mr. Zuiker created and the Electric Sheep engineers have transformed into a scene in Second Life. Mr. Zuiker will leave clues around the murder scene. He will post and rank the 100 people who come closest to his explanation of the murder, and, he said, the winner will “get a virtual gift for his or her avatar.”

The final stage of game play will allow “CSI” fans to become CSI investigators. They will receive a field kit and tools, get a chance to interview suspects and be given the opportunity to solve the murder featured in the episode. The final gimmick of that episode is that it will end in a cliffhanger: it will not be resolved until an episode in February.

Heroes Starts Slow and Diluted?

It pains me to say that but it's true. I haven't posted on Heroes since the premiere so I'm going to play a little catch up.

I knew we were getting one new hero. There was a big deal in the media about the introduction of Maya. Her brother and their "wonder twins" power was a surprise and a very nice touch. I was fine with those new heroes but I wasn't prepared for the introduction of Monica Dawson. She's Micah's cousin and grand daughter of Nana Dawson (Nichelle Nichols). I really like her power because I can personally relate to it more but I'm getting new hero fatigue. We still have other stories with our other heroes that are getting cold.

Micah, Nana, Monica:
Introduce black characters and put them in New Orleans so you can mention Hurricane Katrina. *yawn* Yay for Nichelle Nichols, it's great seeing her! Micah has resorted to using his powers for bad... again. He steals money, he rigs elections and now he's stealing cable... for wrestling of all things!!! He needs a positive role model now! Monica is perky and annoying at first but she learns Kung Fu faster than Neo.

Maya and Alejandro...Sylar too:
Introduce brown characters and have them killing people and illegally crossing the border. *yawn again* If it weren't for her brother being able to balance out her power, I would be extremely bored with this story. This story moves really, r e a l l y slow. If Sylar weren't thrown into their story, it would have been tedious to watch.
Can Sylar steal powers anymore? After his last attempt at "getting it up" failed, how is he going to get their power? Will it work for one person? This story is getting hot.

Matt, Molly, Mohinder:
Is Matt and Mohinder a couple now? They feel couple-ish. We learn that he is living with Mohinder and Molly because his ex-wife was pregnant with another man's child. Nice way to throw away a character. What did her character do anyway? She whined a lot but she was cute. Molly and Matt have a chemistry and it's good they put them together. She really likes Mohinder and he really wears the skirt in the relationship. They all get their hands on a picture of the Power Heroes. In the picture is Linderman, Nakamura, Petrelli and Matt's father. Molly has a hissy fit and tells Matt the bad man of her nightmares is his father. Molly locates his father with her mind and then goes into a coma. It was intense. Matt's story is full of surprises.

Nathan and Grandma Petrelli:
Nathan has been boozing since Peter's "death". Thank goodness he cut off the Osama Bin Laden beard because that thing was beginning to creep me out. After Grandma Petrelli's attack she realizes that Matt can read her mind. She confesses to killing Daddy Nakamura and attacking herself at the station. It is a lie. She mentally tells Matt that she's doing it for all of the heroes' protection. We still don't know what her power is!!! Maybe she's a Hero Detector.

Claire, HRG, West:
Claire's new boyfriend caught her cutting off her toe and growing it back. She reveals that she is a freak, he tells her to STFU and sings "Come fly with me". Not really but now they both know about each other's powers. I still suspect they may be related or at least he's related to Peter. Claire sees marks on his neck. He tells her that he was kidnapped and marked by a man in Horned Rimmed Glasses. Just when we started to like HRG, he's going to go bad again. According to a painting found by Mohinder, HRG will be shot and Claire will be kissing a boy afterwards. He's scared shirtless and is adamant about her not seeing any boys. Claire keeps West and Daddy a secret from each other. That's a situation that's going to explode.
The latest episode puts The Hatian back in play. He's feeling better after being cured and is ready to go off with HRG to do some crimes.

Hiro, Takezo Kensei and Princess Lako:
Takezo is stepping up to the plate now that he realizes that he is invincible. The word on the net is that he is Claire's distant relative and that powers run in families. Hiro was supposed to leave 17th century Japan but is falling for Princess Lako. I'm not sure how this is going to turn out but someone (Hiro) will get his feelings hurt.

Peter Petrelli and his Irish Gang:
I'm bored with Peter's amnesia. I want to get to the reunited- and- it- feels- so- good part. This story is taking too long to unfold and I'm not getting it. I want to see some thrilling heroics.

There is too much going on this season and everything is moving too slow. That should be impossible. I still love the show but I find my self looking at the clock during the episodes.

Star Trek Cast Update

Yes... I know I'm late on this one. I turn my head for one second and we have Kirk, Bones and a different but acceptable Scotty! I really wanted Paul McGillion for Scotty but Simon Pegg is a great choice too. With Simon, you know there is going to be humor without effort. This also has to be a dream job for him because he is such a geek.

The startrek.com website asks the question "Who should play Pike?" Looks like imdb.com has it rumored that it will be Mike Vogel. Does this mean that it's official that the new movie will center around the original episode "The Menagerie"?

More on "The Menagerie" debut.

I getting a bit more excited about this project. They are really doing a great job with casting.
If it's actually good, I will go back to watch a second time in costume. (not)

From imdb.com:
Cast (in alphabetical order)

Zachary Quinto ... Spock

Chris Pine ... Kirk

Eric Bana ... Nero

Simon Pegg ... Scotty

Zoe Saldana ... Nyota Uhura

Mike Vogel ... (rumored)

Anton Yelchin ... Pavel Chekov

Karl Urban ... Leonard 'Bones' McCoy

Leonard Nimoy ... Spock

John Cho ... Sulu

Men That Make Flying Cars Are Sexy!

Carl Dietrich, thank you!

Robert Moller, thank you!

Other people that are making flying cars a reality, thank you!

Fairly realistic flying car offered for 2009 delivery

My desire for a flying car comes from me watching The Jetsons as a kid. When I was younger, I imagined the 2000's would be a silvery, shiny futuristic place. As an adult, technological advancements have been a disappointment to me.

I've made posts about my love for flying cars before and how I want them to be a reality before I die. It brightens my day that people are still working on these projects. Now all I have to do is find a way to afford a flying car. :)

Eureka: A Night In Global Dynamics

Last week on Eureka, there was a voracious metal eating bacteria that attacked all of the towns structures. That crisis was averted only for the town go into chaos again. Henry Deacon tells Sheriff Jack Carter that the metal eating bacteria has starting attacking the iron in humans. He says that it will be a matter of hours before everyone in the town is suffering from the effects. Alarms start to go off all over the Global Dynamics building. The main office that Henry, Beverly, Allison and Kevin are in plummets to a secure subsection of the building. Nathan Stark is made acting director of Global Dynamics. It is bitter sweet because if he doesn't evacuate everyone from the building, they all will be subject to "thermal cleaning". It's a type of security "feature" that kills all organic matter and sounds like a metric buttload of fun.

Henry and Beverly confront Allison and tell her that she has to let them help Kevin. Allison is like, "Yeah right!" Kevin is like, "Totally not!" Henry is really scary in this scene. He starts to yell about taking Kevin away. I don't like him and I'm bothered by it. Beverly starts to babble about the Akashic Field. Because Kevin has been inhabited by the artifact, she says that he has tapped into the same stuff as DaVinci, Tesla and Einstein. She also says that she and Henry want to take Kevin to a "consortium of people" that will protect him from being a government lab rat. This is the same lady that is responsible for Henry's girlfriend's death, spying on citizens and she's fresh out of GITMO. How does she imagine that she's credible? The geeky money shot of this episode is the subatomic reconstructive transport - a teleporter. Bev gets her panties in a twist because the technology was banned by the Stockholm Treaty. Allison says that it was built before that but never disassembled. Henry says he is going to use the tech to get Kevin out of the facility.

While all of this heady stuff is going on in the office now bunker, Jack, Nathan and Taggart are trying to rescue Allison and Kevin. Hazmat suits were torn and wise cracks ensued. The building even went HAL on everyone. It shot at them, mimicked personnel and tried to microwave them. There was even a moment where the group thought there were zombies in the building!

Henry reveals that a byproduct of using the teleporter is that it filters out contaminates and illnesses. The machine needs to use an old DNA profile of Kevin's. It needs to know his biological configuration before he was inhabited by the artifact in order to restore him to his normal state. Read: human reset button. All of this information was beginning to be too much for Allison so she starts a cat fight with Beverly. (The second cat fight this season might I add.) Kevin has a talk with Henry then Kevin tells Allison to stop her hair pulling and listen to Henry. Now all of a sudden, Kevin wants Henry's help.

Stark and Jack get to the morgue and look at the contaminated body that Henry showed as evidence that the metal bacteria had started attacking humans. Stark took one look at it and told Jack that the corpse had been mutilated by acid. There is no contaminate in the building. This whole incident was faked by Henry. This knowledge doesn't help them because the building is still trying to kill them. Fargo eventually finds a way to hack the building and save the day.

Henry set Kevin up to perform the procedure but Beverley wants to stop him. She says this is the closest that anyone has been to the Akashic Field in years. Doing the procedure on Kevin will destroy it. She pulls a weapon but Jack gets there in time to stop her. Nathan tells Henry to stop the procedure because Henry doesn't have the correct DNA profile on Kevin. They get the correct profile and Kevin is restored. It is still unsure if he is still autistic but he doesn't have powers anymore. Beverly used teleporter to get away. Henry turns himself into the authorities.

...OH!!!! ...and Nathan proposes to Allison!

The good: The artifact story is wrapped up. The humor and timing of this show is always perfect. When these actors get together it's like magic.

The bad: Kevin and his story does nothing for me. His character doesn't fit and this was a perfect opportunity to kill him off or make him go away. The Artifact and the Akashic Field was a little too hippie for me. There was a mystery to it but when it was put in Kevin, I didn't get it anymore. It's a scientific show and there just seem to be problems with the mysterious Artifact plot. It seems like the writers tried to do a good job with what they were give but something went wrong somewhere.

The ugly: I hate how Henry was handled. It feels like he was written into a corner. I thought Kim's death was supposed to make him an interesting character. Instead of moving on, he went really dark and has put several people's lives in danger because of his pain. I don't like how irresponsible and unstable they made him. He went from a very fun absent minded professor to a mad scientist. Joe Morton is an important part of this show for me. The "Henry" character started out as such a great role model. Now he's in jail and I don't know what they are going to do to his character to make him fun again. :(

I wonder what next season is going to be like? I can't wait!

You Can Write for George Lucas

All you fanatics out there that think you know Star Wars better than George Lucas will have a chance to pitch ideas to the man himself. He is meeting with writers to start working on the Star Wars TV show. I think it is very good that he's not going to do the writing himself. The man needs a break.

He's going to hold a lock-in sleepover at Skywalk Ranch. You will get to paint each others toes nails, gossip about Anakin's butt, have pillow fights and possibly come up with the most anticipated TV show in years! No pressure.

Evercrack Gets a Movie

What about War Crack? Isn't World of Warcraft more popular than EverQuest these days?

Backing up....

According to SciFi Wire, Sony Pictures has an EverQuest movie in the works. It's going to be about exploring the world of Norrath. We will get to see creature slaying and treasure questing. The article doesn't say if the movie will be live action or animated. I hope that it's animated. When I tried World of Warcraft, I was more impressed with the opening sequence than the game itself.

Will I see it? Dunno.

Will you?

Jeffrey Combs News!

We all know how I love Jeffrey Combs. I have some good news/bad news. The bad news is there probably won't be another Re-Animator movie anytime soon. This is according to the Sci-Fi Wire. I'm disappointed because Jeffrey is always awesome in those movies. The good news is that Jeffrey Combs will be in The Return to House on Haunted Hill. It's a straight- to- DVD release which is scary but he's in so I'll check it out. I still enjoy his performances in The 4400. I hope he returns next season.

Top 5 Most Fashionable Science Fiction TV Shows

This list includes current shows that are still airing. This list does not refer to costuming but stylish modern clothing.

[5] Lost
Not because of the ratty clothes they wear on the island but the clothes in the flash backs. I knew that the stylist of Lost paid attention to fashion when I recognized a Catherine Malandrino dress on Sun.

[4] Smallville
It's all about Chloe; from her hair to her personal style. She always looks awesome. She can go from youthful casual to news office preppy and still look chic.

[3] Eureka
Allison and Nathan always look fantastic. Nathan's suits drape off of his body like a dream. Allison always looks classy. Sometimes she goes power suit, sometimes she goes business casual. She is at her best when she's in a flirty dress. Chloe has a unique youthful style. Her first season was a little rough around the edges because they let her dress herself. I can tell that someone has put their foot down.

[2] The 4400
The hair in The 4400 is amazing. I will go as far to say that 4400 has the best hair in science fiction. Diana's sister, April went from being a tragic proto- goth to a fabulous bird. I'm still drooling over the outfit in her last appearance. Though I didn't like the character, Alana always had on something funky and urban. Kyle's imaginary friend, Cassie has a great artsy, coffee house thing going on. They even brought in a new girl to give the geek boys fashion tips!

[1] Heroes
Two words: Grandma Petrelli. I've had such a fashion crush on her every since I saw her in her Burberry jacket. Nothing gets me all aflutter like Burberry. She always has on a diva mink collared/cuffed coat. When I grow up, I want to be as stylish as Angela Petrelli.

Honorable Mentions:
Charmed; The stylist on this show took risks. Some of them were wild but for the most part the Charmed Ones looked really great.
Buffy; The first couple of season were HORRIFIC! In the later seasons, Sarah Michelle Gellar became a bit of a fashion icon. She is still seen at fashion events. (Go back to blonde!)
Star Trek: The Original Series; Even though this is a costumed drama, Star Trek inspired me to learn how to sew.

I Think It's Peter Petrelli

On Heroes, one of the heroes are killing off the others. I think it's Peter Peter Petrelli. He's gone dark. He doesn't want to open the box that tells him who he is. He's part of an Irish gang now. He's the only one that can dive off of building (death of Sulu) and invisibly strangle someone (Grandma Petrelli). Plus, the tattoo and which is the same marks on the photos is all him. I also think he is Molly's big bad. I don't really like this because I like Peter as a good guy.

New Star Trek Movie is an Old Star Trek Episode

Trek 'Menagerie' Screens Nationally
A remastered version of the original two-part Star Trek episode "The Menagerie" will screen in select movie theaters around the country in a one-night event on Nov. 13.

Digitally remastered in high definition, with Cinema Surround Sound, the episodes will be screened along with an introduction from Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's son, Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, as well as with a behind-the-scenes look at how the episodes were remastered and a new 30-minute in-theater featurette. The episodes will feature new computer-generated visual effects and an orchestral re-recording of the show's theme music.

The screening will be presented by NCM Fathom, CBS Home Entertainment and StarTrek.com at 7:30 p.m. local time in nearly 300 participating AMC, Cinemark, Georgia Theatre Co. and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters.

Tickets for the screenings are on sale now for $12.50 at theater box offices or online at FathomEvents.com.

w00t! It's playing in a theater near me!

"The Menagerie" is the two part episode featuring Captain Christopher Pike. In this adventure, Spock gets court-martialed for hijacking the Enterprise. It's an intriguing story because logical and loyal Spock is not behaving like himself. He also is saying much that makes sense. This story uses a bunch of flashbacks from the un-aired Pilot episode of Star Trek. I loved this story and they have my favorite character the green Orion Slave Girl in this movie!!! GIRLIE SQUEALTM!!! :P

Rod Roddenbery will do an intro to the movie. We will also get to see some extras on how everything was made. I can't wait!

Is more promotion for the new movie? Will the new movie use elements from this plot? Will the buzz get me so excited that I will wear a Star Trek uniform while standing in line?

I'm really impressed with all that is being done to breathe life back into the franchise. The real question is will Star Trek be reborn a phoenix or a zombie?

I've Never Seen Cupid But It's Returning

ABC is going to create a new version of the television show Cupid. It was a romantic comedy about a guy who thinks he was sent to earth by Zeus to match make. He was punished by Zeus for his arrogance. To get back on Zeus's good side, he has to make 100 couples have a love connection without using his godly powers.

The original actor who plays "Cupid" won't be returning. I wonder how the show is going to do. I'm not sure why this has shown up on the science fiction radar. I do know a couple of sci-fi fans who really like this show. I guess if you think of Greek God's as aliens like in Star Trek, it works.

To the RIAA, I Say Uncle

RIAA wins first-ever file-sharing case to go to trial, awarded $222,000
Regardless of the incredibly asinine and consumer-hostile comments made by Sony BMG's head of litigation the other day, the jury found Jammie Thomas, a single mother from Minnesota, liable for willful copyright infringement and awarded the RIAA plaintiffs $222,000 -- that's $9,250 for each of the 24 songs she was alleged to have made available on Kazaa, for those of you keeping track at home, and probably something like, oh, say, $222,000 more than she should have had to pay, since the RIAA plaintiffs weren't required to show that Thomas had a file-sharing program installed on her machine or that she was even the person using the Kazaa account in question.
Unbelievable.

I'm sorry that Jammie Thomas has to be made an example of but this case had to happen. The fines are excessive. There is no way that the fine amount can be justified. On the other hand, the case has educated the masses. I learned more about copyright law and what is considered a violation than I knew before. Before this case, I did not truly understand the RIAA's point of view. I just didn't get it.

File sharing was quaint back in the Napster and Suprnova days but now, I must admit, there's no excuse for it. We have everything we want. We have music on demand for dirt cheap; iTunes, eMusic, AmazonMP3. We have portable music players to carry these songs on. We have pretty much every TV show and movie on demand for dirt cheap; iTunes, Netflix, Amazon Unbox. These services are more convenient than the alternative which is why I rely on them now.

No one can justify illegal file sharing from this point on. I think there should be a truce between the suits and the consumers. Everyone should get a shiny, red candy- like reset button from this date forward.

Captains Don't Get Star Named After Them?

According to SciFi Wire, George Takei shares a name with a star out in the final frontier. I'm sure there's a "good- natured" gay joke out there for this but I don't have one on tap. I found it interesting that Gene Roddenberry has an asteroid named after him. Of course he should get a planet or a solar system. Nichelle Nichols also has an asteriod. Where's Captain Sisko's asteroid? Jean Luc Picard?

Are You Watching Chuck?

Is anyone watching NBC's Chuck? I caught the end of it before Heroes and I wasn't drawn in. I know that Adam Baldwin from Firefly and The X-Files is in the show. I kinda want to watch for that reason alone.

I'm amused that Chuck works for a Geek Squad knock off but my interest ends there. What is the catch of this show? How similar is it to Jake 2.0?

See the results for last week's poll here:
What will you be watching?

Heroes came in first place, followed by BSG: Razor. Other high scores were for Bionic Woman, Journeyman, Pushing Daisies and Reaper. The losers are Ghost Hunters, Ghost Whisperer, Blood Ties and Numb3rs.

I Called It: McGillion Might Be Scotty

Back on Sept. 14th I suggested that Paul McGillion should be Scotty in the new Star Trek movie. It's not official but he auditioned for the part! There's no one else for this part. They should shut down the audition and just give the part to him.

Speaking of Paul, in this same article giving us the happy news about the audition, the SciFi Wire also reveals that Dr. Beckett will be in A FEW episodes in the fourth season. I'm going to have to give a WTF?!?!?!? I've already mourned his death. I shed actual tears. I've healed. I've moved on. I'm happy to see him back but I'm slightly annoyed too. If it's all flashback, I'm going to be really cranky.
