Kristanna Loken is Painkiller Jane

SCI FI's New Superhero Series To Premiere Spring 2007

New York, N.Y. (October 20, 2006) — SCI FI Channel has cast Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3) in the title role of its new superhero actioner Painkiller Jane. Production on 22 one-hour episodes of the series, produced by Insight Film Studios, in association with Starz Media and Kickstart Comic Arts Studio, will begin in Vancouver next month.

Not a bad choice. She's pretty damned awesome in her own right.

I wonder what happened with Emmanuelle Vaugier and the SciFi Original Painkiller Jane that aired back in 2005? It wasn't bad for a SciFi Original, it even had Richard Roundtree

Cheech is Hurley's Dad

How awesome is that!!! That's almost as good as Sulu being Hiro's dad.

In fact, it explains a lot. :) Cheech will be appearing in a flashback episode that will air on Feb. 28, 2007.

That god I don't have to watch re-runs of Chasing Amy anymore.

Starship Troopers 3?

I didn't know there was a second Starship Troopers.
I totally don't get straight to DVD films. I never get to hear about them until years after they've been released. There has to be a better way to promote them.

Writer/director Ed Neumeier Moviehole.net that Sony is close to giving a green light to a third Starship Troopers film. "Looks like—fingers crossed—Sony is moving forward," Neumeier told the site. "Plans are afoot to shoot next year. Casper Van Dien will be back as Col. John Rico. There'll be a new bug or two. Also draft riots. Religion makes a comeback. And the Federation has a new weapon."

Starship Troopers 3 would be the latest sequel in the franchise that began with director Paul Verhoeven's 1997 hit SF movie, about a war between humanity and giant alien bugs in the future. Neumeier wrote the screenplay for that film, which was loosely based on Robert A. Heinlein's classic SF novel.

Neumeier also wrote and co-produced the second installment, the straight-to-video Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, which was directed by Phil Tippett. It's expected Starship Troopers 3 will similarly go straight to DVD.

Do You Miss Hercules and Xena?

Try Robin Hood!

BBC is hitting us hard with awesome shows this year. First Doctor Who then Torchwood and now Robin Hood.

It has that same fun feel of Hercules and Xena to it. The main actor that plays Robin Hood isn't a huge stud or anything but he gets the job done. I like him. The main baddie, The Sheriff, is most entertaining!

You'll fall in love with the show by the episode "Who Shot The Sheriff?". It's a riot.

Now what does all this mean?

Well, take for example the Series Premiere - Pilot. The 3.2 rating represents the episodes household rating, which indicates that 3.2% of all households in the U.S. watched this broadcast.

Eureka managed to air 7 episodes before ratings dipped below 2.0. The lowest point, as you can clearly see, was Purple Haze with a 1.4 rating. An average of 2.05 makes Eureka Sci Fi's hottest property of the summer!

This is why our favorite show is getting a second season!!! YAY!!!

Poltergeist May Return

From SciFi Wire:

The Bloody Disgusting Web site reported a rumor that the proposed sequel film Poltergeist: Kayeri has been shelved in favor of a shot-for-shot remake of the original 1982 film. "I've just received official confirmation that the original idea for Kayeri will not be used for the remake," an anonymous source told the site. "Instead, the new film will be a straight-up remake of the first film. Pretty much frame-for-frame. Just think Hills Have Eyes."

According to the site, screenwriter Clint Morris, who wrote the script for Poltergeist: Kayeri, will not be involved in the new project. The source also reported that original cast members Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams and Zelda Rubinstein will not appear in the remake.

The original Poltergeist, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper, centered on a family who move into a new housing development and discover that their home is built over an ancient burial ground inhabited by angry spirits. The film spawned two theatrical sequels and a television series, which ran from 1996 to 1999.

Shot-for-shot remake???? Dude!!! Why??? I guess no one learned anything from that Damien remake. I have a bad feeling about this.

Hopefully they will FINALLY release seasons 2-4 of Poltergeist: The Legacy. I liked that show.

Capt. Jack Returning To The Doctor

John Barrowman, who plays Capt. Jack Harkness on the Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood, confirmed to SyFy Portal that his character will return for a multi-episode arc during the upcoming third season of Doctor Who. "I will be in [season] three of Doctor Who," Barrowman said in an interview. "I will be in the last three episodes of four episodes, and the scripts are being written as we speak, because I just got a text from [Doctor Who executive producer Russell T. Davies] telling me that he's finishing the script [in which] Jack returns."

Barrowman first appeared as Capt. Jack in the Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child," and remained on the show through the end of the first season. He later reprised the role in Torchwood, which premiered in October and is currently airing in the U.K. on BBC Three.

Hopefully, we'll see some of his sassiness return. On Torchwood, he's been kinda stale and stuffy. I want to see the fun Captain Jack again!

With any luck, we'll resolve this hand-in-a-jar business.

CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON JOINS HEROES!!!

George Takei (Sulu) will play time-traveler Hiro's father on NBC's hit series Heroes.

E! Online has reported that Takei will play the father of Hiro Nakamura, the young Japanese Star Trek fan who can move through time and space using only his will.

"This is absolutely brilliant," said Masi Oka, who plays the enthusiastic young time traveler bent on saving the world. "Hiro's father is this big honcho who shows up in America with his bodyguard. He has this whole elaborate scheme to...take him back to Japan."

"I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!'" added Oka. "The sci-fi fans would love it!"

Last Monday, E! Online's Kristin Veitch said that a face familiar to genre fans would be joining Heroes, where the ninth Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston, will be be joining the cast as well.

The 69-year-old Takei will first appear in the January 29th cliffhanger episode.

I Hate Musicals but I Loved Evil Dead: The Musical!

If you are in NYC any time soon, you HAVE to make time to see this play! It's not any option.... seriously.

If you've seen Evil Dead: 2 (and even if you haven't) this play/musical is hilarious, campy and Ryan Ward as Bruce Campbell's Ash is OUTSTANDING! There was no weak link with the other actors either. Even a bit part Deadite got his own song. There was eye candy on stage for everyone. It's a really strong show.

The stand out song for me was "What the F@ck Was That?". It's right near the beginning before they realized that there was something "just not right" with their isolated cabin in the woods. Redneck Jake had an awesome song as well. I know when I think of singing and theater I think of Mary Poppins but the songs aren't like that. The cast was a riot and the audience was fully engaged. With singing comes dancing and these guys are phenomenal. Just think of a stage full of Deadites dancing. The dance routines became stellar when they threw in some dance moves from Michael Jackson's Thriller.

They also did wonderful things like reference Army of Darkness and even came on stage with one of Bruce Campbell's books. Of course, we got all of the great Ash one- liners. They threw some in from all of the Dead movies and the audience cheered every time and sometimes even quoted them along with Ward.

The set was simple but effective. The pictures on the wall moved and twirled. There was a talking moose head. Ash's severed hand was an awesome flying prop at times. The chainsaw was the best. With chainsaws and moving props comes BLOOD. The funniest part of the show was the Splatter Zone. The chairs of the three front rows were covered with plastic and the patrons were given plastic bags to cover themselves. Boy did they need it. The actors weren't shy or conservative with the blood either. It was a blood bath. The people on the left side got it more.

Evil Dead: The Musical is showing at The New World Stages Theatre. It looks like a hole in the wall when you first approach it but it's underground and really cool and sci-fi looking on the inside. They are serving an Evil Dead drink which is cranberry juice and black vodka. It was so yummy I had two! There are souvenirs and of course I got a t-shirt and a hat! The biggest disappointment was there was on DVD or CDs of the show to buy. There should be a DVD of this play and a CD with the soundtrack. I would have bought them right then and there. Hopefully when the show ends they will do something like that.

This show is more than worth the ticket price of about $22- $63. I'm not sure if the shows stop in January but you can't buy tickets after 01/21/06. So if you have family to visit in NYC this holiday season DEMAND that they take you to see this!

After seeing Passion of the Christ, I do not trust Mel Gibson with my attention. I think P ot C was an irresponsible movie. I was depressed for a week. I still don't know how I feel about the movie. I just filed it in one of those mental boxes of things you don't really know what to do with.

As if that wasn't enough, he's been saying weird things on TV and looking like a general crackhead. I haven't really kept up so I'm sure I don't know the whole story.

I'm not sure what this movie is really about. What I do know is that it is in a Mayan tongue so I'll have to read subtitles... again. It's probably going to be about the end of the world like a book I read (a looooong time ago) called the Mayan Prophesies???

Looks like the costumes might be cool. Other than that, I'm not sure what the hell this movie is about and why I'd want to see it.

The Prestige: Wolverine vs. Batman

If I reveal why I, a scifi fan, am writing about this movie, it will be a spoiler. It's not sci-fi because it has Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and David Bowie *shudders at the thought of The Labyrinth*.

This movie is beautiful. It's badass. If you don't watch it now, when you do, you'll kick yourself in the ass for not watching it sooner.

I think I will do the movie a disservice by trying to compare it to something else. If forced, I'd say Eureka meets Penn & Teller; Outer Limits definitely. But don't listen to that. Wipe that clean from your mind. Remove all expectations. In fact, I'll say that it sucks only for you to go in with a clean slate and an open mind.

I'm going give folks a chance to see the movie influence and spoiler free before I rant about why I love this movie.

What did his character do anyway but scowl? It's seems that people from the "back of the plane" didn't integrate well with the rest of the plane members. Are all of them dead now?

What's this deal with a spine tumor? I hate this storyline. Earlier this season I was still enthused with the mysterious plots of Lost, now I'm a bit exhausted by them. I need for them to explain to me why "The Others" feel the need to hold Jack, Sawyer and what'sherface.... Kate... in captivity??? No one is even asking the question.

I'm glad they brought the smoke monster back. It keeps this show on the science fiction radar.... among other things.

Wachowskis Get Their Hands On Speed Racer

SCI FI Wire - Matrix Team Preps Speed Racer

Producer Joel Silver has enlisted his Matrix creators, Larry and Andy Wachowski, to write and direct a big-screen, live-action version of the animated TV series Speed Racer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie will be the duo's first directorial outing since completing the Silver-produced Matrix series in 2003. They are reuniting with several of the creative behind-the-scenes talents from the Matrix films, including executive producer Grant Hill and visual-effects supervisor John Gaeta, who won an Oscar for his work on The Matrix.

First reaction:
OH GOD NO!!! I used to be in love with Speed Racer when I was a little girl. Of course I only caught the re-runs but still. The Matrix died a dismal death. DON'T LET THOSE DAMNED WACHOSKIS GET THEIR HANDS ON SPEED RACER!!!!!!!

Second reaction: (After calming down)
While I don't quite remember Matrix 3 (and I haven't re-watched since I paid $12 for a IMAX ticket on opening day), I do remember the car chase scene in Matrix 2. It was damned good. If anything, Wachowskis know how to do action. It's the best quality action for your buck.
I also have to remember that I LOVED V for Vendetta.

I'll give the boys a chance but they still owe us a Matrix do-over or an apology or an acknowledgement that something went very wrong with that last Matrix film.

The Heroes tagline, "Save the cheerleader. Save the world", is the worst tagline in the history of taglines. It is such a turn off. It rivals some of the crappiest taglines for some of my beloved SciFi Channel Originals. Last week's episode was my least favorite. It started to drag. We do find out that the pixie haired chick, Eden, was a plant just like Lynne from SciFi News predicted. The cheerleader met fake parents. We see Niki go Tyler Durden. That scene lasted WAY too long. She gets "killed" by her baby's daddy. I think she's alive but now her "bad side" has been fully activated.

I'm not quite sure why this episode bored the crap out of me but it did. It pulled me out of the show's adrenaline. Hopefully next week gets better.

SERIOUSLY! SOMEONE KILL THAT TAGLINE!!!

Dark Days for NBC/Universal and/or Fox?

I just found this out but Universal Studios Licensing is taking legal action against the very fans that it asked to help promote Serenity. Universal just started selling their own officially licensed Firefly t-shirts so now they want the fans to quit selling theirs. Fair but they had months to get off their asses and create this stuff for the fans. Now when the thrill is gone and the fans most likely aren't buying much of the stuff, this is when they choose to bring out the big guns.

I can hear the meeting now...

"I know! The fans are making too much money off of our "property". I think they are out there buying houses and BMWs. We can't have that. Let's sue the only people who give a crap about our movie and TV show. They've already created the market for us. A lawsuit will be promotion for our new merchandise. We can also make our merchandise look just like the fan merchandise. They've done all of the work for us. It's a win-win."

If they are bringing legal action to Serenity/Firefly fans for making fan related goods, why aren't they so protective of another hot properties like Project Runway? That show has TONS of fan created merchandise and I like it all. These folks have put pictures of the characters and lines from the show on the shirt. It's similar to what 'verse fans do with Wash and "I'm a leaf in the wind." Why do some shows get the light treatment and a cult show like Serenity/Firefly get the iron fist?

I hope that they drop the charges. No one should be penalized for being a fan of a TV show. It's sad because I LIKE NBC/Universal. They have been involved in a lot of great shows lately.

C'mon folks, don't be that greedy. A cease and desist letter or even an official announcement would have been sufficient.

I've Turned A Corner with BSG

Well....

Last week's episode of Battlestar Galactica made this whole New Caprica debacle all worth it. *bows to Ron Moore saying 'We are not worthy'*

I'm sure everyone understood my concerns. I felt the Pegusus story was rushed. I felt the New Caprica story was just plain sloppy. After being burned by Star Trek: Enterprise anyone should totally understand my anxiety when it comes to good franchises turning to squat. I'm still a bit scarred from that and the creation and cancellation of good Sci-Fi TV shows last season.

I voice my fears and dissatisfaction the same way I profess my love for shows. I don't mind being wrong but most of the time I'm right.
OK.... enough of that.

Something just wasn't "right" with the way the New Caprica story was handled. It has never sat right with me and made it hard to look forward to the new season of Battlestar Galactica. Given my reservations, I still went in there and watched.

Last week's Exodus Part II gave me the the geekgasm that I was yearning for. This is the episode that had the big pay off. I don't think it was a reward or a gift. It definitely demonstrated that the show hasn't lost it's edge. All of the seemingly sloppy loose ends and erratically introduced new story arcs came together and tied up in a nice, neat bow.

There were 5 major things that re-sold me on the show.

1) The death of Tigh's wife.
I cried. I still think that the ordering of her death and Tigh executing those orders were premature. I still think that the she could have been redeemed. She showed incredible loyalty to her husband and for that I think he should have protected her at all costs. I think he was wrong to succumb to peer pressure and murder her. I don't think that any of that was their call. Sure, soldiers died but they were being rescued the same day. I think she should have been taken to Galactica and tried. The Cylons put them in that situation and The Cylons killed those soldiers.

2) President Laura reclaiming her chair and office.
Damn that was sweet! That was the BEST part of the episode. I LOVE her character.

3)The ship scene!
You know which one. The one where the ship comes down in atmo and then jumps to hyper just in time to avoid crashing and killing those below. GOOSEBUMPS!!! There were a lot of space battle scenes that make me want to re-watch this episode.

4) Fake-Fat Lee Adama disobeying orders.
That boy is good for something. Sure he whines more than Luke Skywalker but he's just as triumphant too. Bravo!

5) The Tigh/Adama Reunion.
Tigh was just the drunk soldier before. Now he's the war torn, one-eyed, wife-murdering, second fiddle, broken, angry, tired, under-appreciated unsung hero. I LOVE the scene when Adama gets cheers and is lifted on everyone's shoulders and Tigh walks off quietly through the crowd. This doesn't go unnoticed by Adama and THAT was AWESOME. It was perfect and it was THE scene that restored my faith in the show.

I can't wait to see Captain Tight Pants on Lost! It's time to start sending those emails to Joss again. Let him know that nathan Fillion still has a hot ass and it looks good on TV.

....and they say that Lost isn't Sci-Fi. BAH!

Serenity's Fillion On Lost

Serenity star Nathan Fillion guest-stars on the Nov. 8 episode of ABC's hit series Lost, "I Do," which also marks the decision by Kate (Evangeline Lilly) to hook up with either Jack (Matthew Fox) or Sawyer (Josh Holloway). Fillion will play a character named Kevin in the episode, which is the last new one for a while as the series takes a 13-week hiatus, returning in February.

In "I Do," Jack makes a decision regarding Ben's (Michael Emerson) offer, Kate feels helpless when it looks like an angry Pickett (Michael Bowen) is going to make good on his threat to kill Sawyer, and Locke (Terry O'Quinn) discovers a hidden message that may guide him through the next steps on his journey to unlocking the secrets of the island.

"I Do" was written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and directed by Tucker Gates. It airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
